"Hey, Loverboy, I have news for you." Jin shouted at the entrance of the cafeteria, dusting himself from what seemed to be seasalt as he padded towards our table.

I rolled my eyes at Him. Good thing Mia did not hear him, as she was preoccupied discussing her little "Lee Mia" book with the chaotic triplets, Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook, probably plotting pranks against the older ones.

It was awesome how she and the rest of the gang got along pretty well. She happened to be of the same age as Jungkook, just months younger, which means she's officially the little sister of the group. Sometimes, she would sit with us during lunch, but if I wasn't there due to extra minutes for Physics class, she was shy and would stay with her girls Cara and Stacey, but Hoseok and the rest would sit close by. With us around her, she felt safer, and the bullying lessened.

The boys were more than happy to take part in watching over her, since they were completely smitten by her peculiar but amazing personality. Hoseok admitted that it was refreshing for once to have a girl friend that does not flirt and trying to impress. Not to be conceited, but my friends and I are the most popular and most handsome beings in the entire school. So girls nonstop follow us and stare at us, so when Mia was otherwise, they instantly fell. She never tried hard to get our attention. Indeed, Mia was one of a kind.

"Are you guys planning on using another of Mia's sorcery on us again?" Jin complained, trying to snatch the book from Jungkook's hands, which the latter evaded smoothly. He was aparently their latest victim of the salt shower method, as he rid his bag of the remnants and resumed dusting his uniform clean.

Mia giggled. Oh, my heart. "Sorry, Jin. I told them to quit it, but they seem to enjoy it a lot." She smiled apologetically.

"I swear one day, I'll hide that book away. I don't really appreciate lavander-flavoured water," Namjoon blurted, scratching his head. They must have added perfume in his drink once.

"Well, we haven't done anything to Yoongi yet, so we aren't stopping," Jimin said without looking up to see how I would react. Mia simply shrugged and gave me an innocent look.

"You can't catch me." I taunted them

Jungkook made a face. "Don't be too sure, Yoongi. We'll get you soon. Mia will help us, right, Mia?"

She shook her head, "I agreed to lend you my book ONLY, not on helping you out."

"Nooooooo!!!" The trio complained in unison, causing the rest to laugh. They huddled over the book, flipping pages and fell deep in discussions for their new mission: get Yoongi.

Taking advantage of the situation, I turned my attention to Jin, "What news do you have for me?"

"My youngest uncle got promoted to police inspector, and is now designated here in our city, which means we might have easier access to information."

"Wow, that's good news!"

"Yes, but we have to be careful. He learned that the Chief is taking orders from someone with influence. He volunteered to handle Emily's case, but was refused, said they already have a team established for it. He's assigned for desk work. But don't worry. He will still help, he'll find information on his own."

"Tell him to be careful. I'm worried, Jin. The pathologist. I know something bad happened to her. I got a call two days after reports were officially released, saying the whole investigating team was hiding something. She was the assistant when the autospy was done, her boss ordered to keep her mouth shut, but still she contacted me. Jimin and I waited for an hour at a meeting place she set, but she did not show up. Her phone was dead the entire day."

Jin froze. Hoseok joined in the conversation, "You think she's dead? Have you tried calling her number again?"

"It rings, but no one answers. Maybe she was thrown out of town or threatened. I don't know..."

"This is quite dangerous, Yoongi," Hoseok muttered under his breath, sizing up the situation by what he heard.

"Yes, I'm aware. But, I need to do this, for Emily."

He place his hand on my shoulder and gripped it for reassurance, looking over Jin, then to me. "We'll help you, don't worry. What about her parents? Is her father even doing anything?"

"I haven't seen them, nor heard from them after the funeral. Her dad hates me even more."

From the beginning of our relationship, Emily's dad had been cold. He would greet me casually, but never did we have any proper conversation. But after losing Emily, he loathed me to the bone.

My head hurt from thinking too much. I glanced at Mia, caught her staring at me shamelessly. She looked worried, her gray eyes questioning. I flashed her my gummy smile to let her know I was fine. Her pretty lips curled upwards, then shook her head slowly, silently saying "I can read your emotions, but if you say you're okay, I will believe it."

It still fascinates me how one look in her eyes and I know exactly what she was telling me, each bat of her eyelash meant different things, and I'm so proud to have memorized all of them. It's the benefit of hanging out with her more often lately, talking just about anything from the most senseless things to the deeper meanings of life, not to mention occassional discussions of the most difficult school-related topics. The best description of having her in my life right now is that she's a breath of fresh air, and clarity amidst chaos and havoc.

Was I in love with her?

At this point?

I can't answer.
