It was a quiet train ride, aside from the almost inaudible plucking of cherry twigs and the sound of cherries bouncing around in their small container as Mia continued to shake them. She sat on the opposite side facing me, her dazzling gray eyes feasting on the breathtaking view before us. I loved how her pink, doll-like lips would part in awe as we pass along the meadows where cloud shadows scattered across the grassy grounds. I was glad we took the train to go to Shallow's Peak High for a conference. The day before the event, there was endless squabbling about saving Mother Earth and conserving natural fuels by taking the train. I was exasperated at Mia for not letting me take my car, but now I was grateful for her stubborn demands. I never thought I needed this in my life, the idea of just sitting here, mesmerized and drinking in her beauty whenever I desire with no hindrances, with my full, uninterrupted attention, undying admiration on full display only for her.

She was not sparing me a glance and persistently avoiding my gaze, her eyes fluttering nervously whenever she notices my eyes glued intently on her. It was making her uncomfortable, making her smoothen her skirt, constantly shifting in her seat and clearing her throat loudly as if mentally asking me to stop. But I won't. I don't mind smiling like a fool as I behold the most prepossessing angel this entire lifetime has ever known.

The emotions run seamlessly through my veins, endless flow of undeniable adoration and pure bliss rushing like cool water all over me. This moment was heavenly.

How do I love thee, Mia, let me count the ways...

I rested my elbow on the wide windowsill, squishing my cheek in the palm of my hand as my eyes continue to behold. A smile slowly crept across my face as she started to hum a beautiful tune, clearly distracting herself from the constant assaults of my piercing gazes.

Were they perfervid? I think not.

They were loving, longing, endearing.

She noticed that there was only a few pieces left, so she attempted to shake me off from my daze by offering a cherry, which I declined politely. I was already full just watching her savour each fruit she pops in her little mouth.

"You're a strong girl."

She blinked and looked down at her hands as she settled the near empty container neatly on her lap before acknowledging my words.

"Well, I have to be. My dad needs me, so I have to keep going," she said. Subconsciously her fingers brushed against her arm, feeling beneath the thin fabric of her uniform the newly healed wounds.

For a teenage girl who's been through hell, she's holding up quite well. She's like a small boat in a vast ocean with countless storms and merciless waves crashing, trying to turn her upside down, break her and sink her. Life caused her horrible anguish, she looks at fear in the face on a daily basis, she has suffered pain most of us could never handle, but still she gets back up with grace, and manages to wake up each day with a warm smile and positive outlook. I'm completely and utterly smitten.

I wanted to hold her so badly. But my mind says otherwise. A couple of weeks ago, I almost lost control. Again. Thinking about how I nearly slipped made me feel horrible, and claiming I am only human and subject to human urges is such a pathetic excuse. She's so precious, so innocent.

"Mia, can you do something for me while we're there?"

She focused on me with weary eyes, as she pressed the last piece of fresh plump cherry between her lips.

I continued with a more serious tone. "Stay close to me. If you feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to let me know. I promised Ms. Keen to look after you."

She tilted her head to the side, slowly leaning against the glass and jutted one corner of her cherry stained lips upward as she said softly, "Okay, Yoongi."

As soon as we set foot at the gates of the prestigious Shallow's Peak, a swarm of boys from different schools came rushing towards us, all eyes on the girl who gripped my arms tightly and hid herself behind me.

"Hey, Yoongi! Long time no see!"

I was greeted by Jio and a few more acquaintances. During my time as captain of the basketball team, I made sure each of my members were humble and polite, so as to earn friends and not enemies. As for Jio, he was my favorite opponent. He's loud inside the court, his mouth full of profanities during the game, but after that he's a nice guy, and he doesn't take things too personally. We did some catching up, until I noticed him fondly watching Mia clung tightly on my arm.

Mia hid herself behind me, buried her face on my back, painfully hitting my shoulder blade, as Jio examined her from head to toe.

"Hi there. Aren't you a shy girl..." Jio then turned to me, "Your girl?"

"Yeah, My girl. Mia, baby, this is Jio, the incredibly bothersome Jio."

She looked up to greet the stranger and simply nodded before stepping away and hiding herself again from the persistent pest.

"Wow, she's gorgeous! Don't I get a handshake? I won't bite," but before he could get a hold of Mia, I chuckled and quickly swatted his arm.

"Leave her alone, you're scaring my girl."

Jio merely shrugged and mockingly kicked my butt. After some more small talk, he bid us farewell and went on ahead.

"This is going to be a very long day," I muttered under my breath as I watched the group of guys walk away.

"Your girl?" Mia gazed at me.

"Yes. Mine. Got a problem with that?"

She squinted her eyes and shook her head in disapproval before tugging my jacket to start moving.

The cold wind blasted through our faces and I could feel Mia shiver as she pressed her side closer to mine. I noticed some loose strands of her hair flying across her face, making her scrunch her nose uncomfortably.

"I envy the wind," I murmured while tucking the uncooperative hair behind her ear. Her already flushed cheeks turned into a deeper color at the contact of my fingers to the small skin at the tip of her earlobe.

People began to stare as we got inside the campus. I mean, who wouldn't? Mia was such an eye catcher, especially with her gray curious eyes, flushed cheeks as red as beet, pinkish nose due to the cold, and sweet cherry lips. Not to mention her waist-length straight, silky hair that shimmered in the sunlight.

My heart swelled as she interlaced her cold and quivering fingers with mine, silently telling everyone that I'm with her, and I could help but feel so proud.
