4 Months and 6 Days Later - July 5, 2024
38 Weeks
Dave and I had decided to find a bigger house before the newest and final member of the family came along. We found a beautiful house in Beverly Hills that would fit all of us comfortably. There was enough rooms so that the kids wouldn't have to share, which was one of the things we were looking for in a house. It also had an office, two living rooms, a huge space for Dave to use as an office and as a mini home studio. There was also a nice big dining room, a kitchen with a little breakfast nook, a pool, hot tub, a fire pit area and an outdoor fireplace. There was also a lawn for the kids, Lennon and our new golden retriever puppy Shadow to play on and an outdoor grill area that Dave loved. Our old house sold shortly after we put it on the market and we had to move to the beach house for three months. We moved into the new house a month ago and we were, for the most part, completely moved in. We just had to finish the nursery. Dave had painted it pink and set up the crib last week and now we were just trying to get it decorated. The nursery probably should have been the first thing we did when we moved in but I wanted the rest of the house done first just in case she came early.
"Are you sure you want this here babe?" Dave asked as he finished moving the crib again. I couldn't seem to make up my mind as to where it should go.
"I guess. I'm sorry that I can't seem to make up my mind these days," I said as Dave walked over to me.
"It's ok babe. You just want our home to be perfect and ready for when our daughter arrives," Dave said back in response.
"I do. The room looks great and so does the house. Thank you for staying home this past month to help me. I appreciate it," I said.
"You're welcome and I know that you do. The new album can wait a while but if the fans start rioting," Dave started but I cut him off.
"I will take full responsibility," I said before I kissed Dave on the cheek.
"Good now let's go relax for a bit before we pick up James and before you decide the crib goes back to where it was before," Dave said as we walked out of the room.
We headed downstairs and I sat down on the couch while Dave went to the kitchen. I felt a tiny little pain and wondered if maybe contractions were starting. He came back with a glass of apple juice for me and we sat on the couch and just enjoyed the peace and quiet while we could. Lucas woke up just before we had to go pick James up from school. Once he was changed, we picked up James and headed back home. Dave got to work on dinner when we got home so it was my job to entertain the boys. After dinner, Taylor came over and he and Dave went into the home studio to work. James and I put Lucas to bed and then we got to work on his homework. When that was done, it was off to bed for James and I was left alone. I sat down on the couch and looked around for a minute before I headed off to the studio. Just before I opened the door I felt another pain and smiled slightly. I knew that pain and was happy about it because it meant our little girl was on her way into this world.
"It sounds good the way it is," Taylor said as I walked into the studio.
"I just think oh hey babe. Everything ok?" Dave asked when he saw me.
"Ya, everything is fine. I was just feeling lonely after putting the boys to bed. I can go if you want me to," I responded with.
"No, you can stay. We're just discussing the drum track for this one song," Dave said with a smile.
"Your husband wants to change it but I think it sounds great the way it is," Taylor said as I sat down on the couch beside him.
"Oh so he's my husband when he wants to change the drum track but all tour he's your husband. I see how it is now," I said jokingly.
"I'm only his husband when he wants me to be," Dave added and we all shared a laugh.
I stayed in the studio for a while and then said good night to Taylor and headed upstairs for bed. I did my nightly routine and then got into bed and called Abby. I told her my contractions had started and she told me that she and Taylor were planning on adding to their family. We talked for a while more before she hung up to go put Olivia back to bed. I laid down and tried to go to sleep but I got another contraction. After laying there for what seemed like forever but couldn't get to sleep. I felt another contraction so I decided to sit up. I grabbed my phone and texted Kimmy that I had started having contractions. We had given Kimmy the last two weeks off because it was going to be all hands on deck once the baby arrived. She texted back and said that she would be here in an hour. I got out of bed and went on a hunt for Dave. I found him still in the studio but he was on the drums. He didn't notice me until he stopped and then he came rushing into the room looking worried.
"Everything ok?" Dave asked.
"I'm fine. Everything is fine except I can't sleep," I replied.
"Is she kicking you again?" Dave asked as he sat down beside me.
"Not really but she may be here sometime soon," I replied with a smile.
"You sure you still want to do this here without any drugs?" Dave asked as he started rubbing my bump.
"I'm sure. We should probably make the other calls we need to make. Kimmy is on her way. I texted her before I came downstairs," I replied.
"I will make the calls and get everything ready. You go settle on that couch and just relax and try to get some sleep," Dave said and helped me off the couch.
We headed to the living room and Dave helped me get comfy before getting everything ready. Kimmy showed up and went upstairs right away because Lucas woke up. Just as the midwife and doula showed up my water broke. Once the birthing pool was blown up and filled, it was well after midnight and the contractions were getting closer and closer. By the time James and Lucas were up for the day, there was still no baby. Violet came over with Harper and Ophelia when they found out that today was baby day. Sometime before noon it was finally time to start pushing and in no time I was back on the couch resting while the nurse weighed and measured our little girl. Once everyone who wasn't family had left, I was able to take a short nap. I woke up to find Dave sitting on the end of the couch holding our daughter.
"How's she doing?" I asked as I sat up a bit.
"She's doing good. How are you doing over there beautiful?" Dave asked back.
"I'm doing good. Hungry and still tired but good," I replied with a smile as the baby started crying. Dave got up and handed her to me and I started feeding her. I looked down at her and smiled wide as he left the living room. When he came back he had a box of pizza.
"Violet took the girls and James out for dinner and Kimmy is upstairs with Lucas. It's just you me and," Dave said but stopped.
"We should decide on a name," I said as she finished eating.
"I used up all my girl names with Violet, Harper and Fifi so you get the honour," Dave said in response.
"Well, I think I have the perfect name for her. Welcome to the world Lucille Virginia Melissa Grohl," I said as I looked down at her. I smiled at her but then I got sad and teary-eyed. I wiped a tear away and hoped Dave hadn't noticed but he did.
"I hope that's a happy tear," Dave said as he moved closer to me.
"No, it was a Cecilia tear. I was just thinking about how I finally have a daughter but I have two, not one. I just don't want to forget her now that we have little Lucy," I replied.
"We won't forget her. Her picture will stay on the mantle and you can look in the box whenever you want. Cece is still loved and missed and she will stay that way," Dave said as he put his arm around me. I looked at him and smiled before I kissed him on the cheek.
"I don't know what I ever did to deserve you but I'm glad I did it. I love you to the moon and back," I said.
"I love you to the moon and back as well," Dave said and leaned in to kiss me.
