josh nodded along as his friend brendon was explaining something to him and ryan, sounding excited.

no, josh didn't know what he was boasting about, but he didn't want to seem rude, and he was pretty sure that ignoring your best friend would be counted as rude. so, he nodded every now and then, making it seem as though he was perfectly invested in what the dark-haired boy was saying.

in reality he was really just staring at the school yard. or more so, the boy sitting on a bench at the school yard. josh would stare at the boy a lot on a daily basis, yet he didn't even know his name. all he knew about him was the fact that he always looked sad and tired, and never talked to anyone. josh had made assumptions on why; either the boy was very shy, or hated people. maybe he had friends elsewhere and preferred keeping friends and school separated. maybe he was keeping up an appearance and a reputation, who knows?

all josh could honestly say about the boy was that he wanted to get to know him. he wanted to find out why he never spoke or smiled. he wanted to do something about it and-

"josh?" brendon questioned, waving his hand in front of josh's face. josh snapped out of his daze and turned his eyes away from the boy guiltily, feeling his cheeks flush red.

"he has a crush, i told you," ryan chuckled, looking at his boyfriend. brendon waved his hand dismissively, still looking at josh.

"did you listen to what i was saying?" brendon asked the purple-haired boy in front of him. josh guiltily shook his head, and brendon sighed.

"stop daydreaming and listen to me."

a/n: heyy i'm writing this very angsty fic. i'm not sure how slowly it'll progress, and how long it'll take for it to be complete, but i've got another fic titled come back, if you haven't read that already. all i'm gonna say of that is that i cried while writing it , so it's quite saaddd.
