Austin's POV

I take a sip of my tea turning the page in my book as I soon feel myself getting lost in the story as I am in the middle of reading chapter 4 of the novel "A Game of Thrones" which is the first novel of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.

I am standing there as King Robert Baratheon, Queen Cersei Lannister, all the Lannister children, and the rest of the Baratheon entourage arrive to Winterfell. The Prince is first person I notice and just looking at him I can already tell that there is just something about him that makes me feel ill, a large carriage enters the gates with the Lannister seal all over it, lastly, I see the King himself. Everyone in Winterfell bows to the King as he gets off his horse and walks up to Ned and the rest of us. The King gives us the okay to stand back up and I look over at Ned who looks at Robert almost like he doesn't recognize him at all, but given that the last time Ned saw Robert was nine years ago and The King no offense has gotten rather fat in those nine years. The two men huge quickly as Robert smiles and hug Catelyn before looking at me giving me a slight nod and I bow a little showing my respect to the King even if he won't show any to me, I have come to expect this since I am not really part of the Stark family. As King Robert and Ned are talking I can't help noticing the queen step out of the carriage dressed in what I would consider very ridiculous clothing, Cersei looks around Winterfell with a very displeased look on her face. Robert moves to Robb who he shakes hands with.......

Iam snapped out of fantasy by the sound of very loud and distracting commotionoutside the building, I peek outside to see two men in a very heated argument, and as one of the guy's steps into the light of the street light I see that itis my male best friend Scotty McMahon. I look closer at Scotty and the otherguy and I notice that the heated argument is turning a little physical. I closemy book before walking down the steps of the spiral staircase and grab myjacket as I walk out of my dorm room and head outside. I walk outside to seeScotty who brown hair is tousled a little and his brown eyes land on me beforehe looks back at the guy in front of him. Scotty is wearing a white shirt withblue tie-dye on it, a diamond watch on his left wrist, black jeans, a whitebelt around his waist, and white sneakers on his feet. "Why don't you go cry todaddy about your allowance." I hear slurred words of a familiar thickBritish accent voice.

Scottygets the face of the other guy as the other guy laughs and shoves him away andwhen I see the Jack, King, Ace, Queen, and Joker playing cards tattoo on thisperson's right forearm there is no doubt about who is standing in front of me. "Garrett?"I ask out loud as Garrett turns around and I must say that I have never seenGarrett like this before. His light brown hair is messy, his piercing grey eyes are completely bloodshot. "HeyBookworm." He slurs as he stumbles a little.

Garrettis wearing an earring in his right ear, an opened red and black checkered shirtwith no under shirt underneath, necklace around his neck, black sweatpants, andwhite sneakers. "Once second." He says putting his finger up to me and takes adeep breath while turning around, and out of the blue Garrett headbutts Scottyin his face making Scotty's head fling back as he holds his nose which I see bloodstarts coming out of. Scotty swings trying to fight back but Garrett easily evadesthe right hook of Scotty and connects with his own right hook in Scotty'sstomach making Scotty take a step back as he double overs in pain clutching hisstomach.

Ilook at horror at my best friend and I quickly push past Garrett and get in betweenGarrett and Scotty protecting Scotty. "Garrett? What the hell?" I say and the closerGarrett gets to me the stronger the smell of alcohol gets. "This preppy, silverspoon, rich boy thought that he would pick a fight with me." He slurs his wordsand I can't believe that it took me a this long enough to figure out that isgoing on with Garrett.

"You'redrunk." I say sighing and rolling my eyes. "I'm not drunk, if I was drunk Iwould know it." He snaps me at his bloodshot grey eyes locking onto me. "Scotty,go get checked out." Scotty who is still holding his bloody nose looks at melike I am crazy. "I am not going to leave you alone with this manic." I turn myattention away from Garrett to look at Scotty, "He won't hurt me, and if hetries anything I will call campus security and have him escorted out." Scottynods his head giving me a small hug before walking away and I can see theworried and unsure look on his face as he vanishes into the night.

"Whatare you going to do?" I hear Garrett comment as I turn back around giving himmy full attention. "Believe it or not I am going to make sure you don't getinto serious trouble." Garrett starts laughing as I quickly reach and snatchaway the bottle from his hand. "Give it back!" He yells but when reaches for itI pull away taking a step back. "You have had enough for the night and sinceyou can't make your back to the frat house I guess you can stay in my roomtonight." Garrett scoffs at me with a smile on his face. "I am just fine towalk." Garrett takes one step and almost falls over buy lucky for him I catchhim placing his arm over my shoulder. "That proves nothing." He slurs letting outa huge breath. I nod my head, "Come on Garrett, you can keep partying in myroom." I lie as I help Garrett inside the dorm building and into my dorm room.

I can't help but think that this is a twist of fate that I am forced to take care of someone that hates me, but me and my kind nature always seems to get me into trouble one way or another.
