Chapter 28

Austin's POV

We finally make it over tothe Ferris Wheel. "Isn't this normally a couple thing?" I ask as he stand inline and my comment makes Garrett chuckle, "I think you have been watching toomany sappy love flicks." I roll my eyes crossing my arms over my chest, "Whatkind of movies do you watch?" Garrett rises his eyebrow at with a strangefacial expression. "Sorry I was forgot who I was talking to, I am sure that youdon't get out much since you spend most of your nights at the frat house withCassidy underneath you." Garrett rolls his neck and growls at me his eyesflashing of anger. "I would be nice to me if I were you, unless you want to bestranded in the big city." I just look down at the grass as I feel Garrett'shot breath, "Sorry, didn't know that Cassidy was such a sore spot for you."Garrett growls in my ear, "I have a lot of buttons, and if I were you I wouldavoid pushing them, otherwise this will be the last time we hang out." Garrettwalks away getting into the seat, and I take a deep breath shoving my fear deepdown as I get into the seat with him and the guy locks us in.

Asthe wheel stops with Garrett and I on the top overlooking the whole carnival. Ilook over at Garrett who is leaning forward in his seat smiling as he looksaround at all the lights. Garrett looks over at me which makes me feel odd as asoft smile goes to my lips and I quickly turn my attention away from him andfocus on the view. I try to ignore these strange feelings that I just can'tseem to shake. "I love the top of the Ferris Wheel, everything seems so smallfrom here, and is strangely relaxes me." He says turning towards me andsnapping me out of my thoughts by punching me in my shoulder making me lookover at him. "I just have a lot on my mind is all." I lie not wanting to admitwhat is really going on with me because I don't even know what is going on withmyself. "Well I thought you agreed to take a break from campus life and livekin the moment." I take sigh as I turn my body towards him as much as I can. AsI look at Garrett those feelings that I have been trying to ignore get intenseas I find myself staring at me but I break my trance I look away from him. "Youare starting to sound a lot like Colin." Garrett scoffs and rolls his eyesslinging his arm over the seat as he looks up at the night sky. "I am nothinglike Colin, and as a matter of fact I would say that I am nothing like any ofmy other frat brothers." I look into Garrett's piercing grey eyes when Isuddenly start feeling shy and my normal social functions become paralyzed andI can't help but feel like a kid. Garrett starts laughs a little bit which getsme to tilt my head to side curious about why he is laughing. "I just can't helpbut wonder what is going to happen to them after college is over." let out ahuge sigh as the wheel starts moving again. "You almost sound like you reallycare about them?" Garrett locks eyes with me again with an angry grim look onhis face, "They are my brothers, they might be my blood but we will always be friendsand brothers." The wheel stops as the guy starts heading over to let us out."It is nice to see that you genuinely care about something, kind of reminds meof how you acted the night you saved me from that guy." Garrett takes of thebackwards hat he is wearing before running his hand through this hair andplacing the hat back is head, "Don't read too much into that, I was drunk outof my mind." He snaps as me making me sit there in awkward silences as the guywalks up to us and lets Garrett and I out of your seat, and as the two ofleave.

Ihaven't said a word since Garret kind of ruined the evening with his suddenshift in mood, but I am snapped out of my thoughts by the sound of Garrett'svoice, "We should get something to eat before heading back to campus." I lookover at him and before my words answer him my stomach answers him with a growl,"I wouldn't mind getting something to eat, but I am not sure what is aroundhere." Garrett places his hands behind his head as we keep walking towards hiscar, "I know a diner that isn't far from here which is open 24 hours and it hasthe best burger that you will ever taste." I nod my head as we head down thebusy street of the city. "I just noticed that we have talked about school,about the frat house, and about our friends." This makes Garrett looks over atme with a small puzzled look on his face. "What else is there to talk about?"Garrett asks stopping in his tracks placing his hands in his pockets. "Ithought that maybe since we are trying to be friends that we should talk aboutour personal lives." Right as I say this I see Garrett's body tense up almostlike he got an electric shock. "We can find something else to talk about, mypersonal life is off limits." Garrett's mood doesn't seem to be improving infact I think it might be getting worse as he starts walking again until we areshoulder to shoulder. "Just start telling me about yourself." I say but asGarrett shots me look I feel very uncomfortable but I just remind myself thatwe are trying to be friends. "I will start, I have perfectionist parents, Ihave one older brother that is such a free spirit that I sometimes thought hewas adopted, and I have a few friends on campus that I wouldn't trade for theworld." Garrett manages to crack a small smile at me and I soon realize howeasy it seemed for me to open up to him a little about my life.

"What about you?" I ask as Garrett takes a deep breath fixing the hat on his head. "I don't really like to talk about my personal life and that is the end of that discussion." We arrive to a cute little diner that seems to be invisible, "How did you find this place?" I ask as Garrett and I walk inside and as we do I hear the sound of the bell above the door ringing. "I took Cassidy out on a date once night and we found ourselves wandering around city and found this place." Garrett and I walk further into the diner and take a seat in a booth in the corner of the place.
