Prom night

"Diana your friends are here!" Yes. My mother just called me from the living room. My mother is finally awkwardly home in a very long time.

Steve, Jessie, and I decided to go out to eat before we attend prom. I told them let's just eat at a diner so that it'll be minimalistic and cheap, but Jessie absolutely loves going big so we're going a prestigious restaurant that I didn't even know was in town.

The mist hits my skin as I spray some perfume on myself. I check my makeup one last time in the mirror, my mascara and lipstick looking set and eyebrows clean and sharp. It's a bit nerve wracking to step out in public in such a dress but I'll manage, since it falls down and isn't wide and poofy.

During the week I had asked Steve and Jessie if they secretly paid extra for my dress, but both had the same response: "No I didn't...wait, there's a dress shop in Hawkins?"

So helpful.

My hair looks pretty as well, with the help of my mother actually. When I asked her if she could help me with my hair her eyes flowed and she was ecstatic. Instead of the curly bunch my hair always is (with the exception of sometimes straightening it), my hair is now straightened with many curls at the end. I it expect to be so frizzy at the end of the night.

After school on Wednesday I drove to the shoe store on journey to find a pair of heels. Before I went I decided to just buy silver heels but when I got there there was a gorgeous pair of royal blue heels that matched my dress. If I tell one of the boys how much they were they'd make me return them.

I slip on the heels now, the day is finally here. Maybe I secretly did want to go to prom. The shoes give me a greater height, which I'm thankful for. Taking one last look in the mirror, I give a small smile to myself through the reflection and head out my room.

"Holy shit," Dustin says when I step out into the living room. From his left i hear my mother squeal and clap her hands, heat starting to arise in my cheeks. Good thing I don't use blush, I would just look red.

Jessie and I lock eyes and I notice his mouth hung wide open. "Jessie close your mouth before a fly gets caught in there," I grin at him.

Next is Steve, who catches my attention when I briefly look up and down at his suit. They both look extremely handsome and I bet these girls won't be able to stop looking at them all night. He smiles before hugging me and telling me I look beautiful, and the moment is perfect until I hear a snap.
