*Melody*

To say I was nervous was an understatement.

This man not only kidnapped me and tried to sell me to a trafficking ring.

He also killed my mother. All for saving me.

I stood at the window of the federal prison interrogation room, where Raymond Santana sat inside waiting for me.

"Mel," Tahlia said as she stood next to me. "You know you don't have to do this."

My father and Tahlia joined me today to see him. Alice stayed at home however with Inna and Jake. It was best my mother not risk her pregnancy so she agreed to wait for us at home.

I sighed and nodded. "I know... But I want to... I want to know...."

Tahlia and my father looked at each before then sighed and Tahlia gave me a kiss, and I kissed her back as I held her hand.

"We'll be watching the whole time," She said.

I nodded as we hugged before I turn to face my father.

He sighed as he placed his hands on the side of his face.

"You have your mom's guts," he said. "When I knew her, she was never afraid to stare down her fears..."

I smiled sadly as he kissed my forehead.

"We'll be right outside," He said.

I nodded as I was then escorted inside.

I sat across from him as the officer stepped out.

He just sat across from me, just quietly staring at me with a slight glare while he was chained down.

I gulped and kept a strong stance.

"I gotta say, you have guts, sweetheart," he suddenly said. "Usually most girls would rather die than meet me after our time together, yet here you are barely even breaking sweat... Strange but tough, just like your mom."

"Enough," I snapped. "I'm here for a reason since you asked me, but I have a question of my own, too."

He chuckled with a sneer. "I stand by what I said.... Go on, then."

"Why?" I said. "Why just kill my mother so easily? What made you think she would betray you like that at first?"

He only scoffed. "Well, considering I'm going to be locked up with the key thrown away and most likely sent straight to Hell with a few needles, I might as well be direct."

I frowned as he continued.

"You weren't meant for whatever random brothel I could have shipped your tiny ass to," he said. "Hell, you weren't even gonna be put in a ring at all."

I frowned.

"You were kidnapped at first to settle your mother's drug debt. Woman has snorted more supply than the entire 1980s had," he said.

I gulped as as I listened.

"Plan was once we got that cash from your rockstar daddy we were just gonna dump you somewhere to be found, alive of course," he explained. "However, when we decided to give you back, I got a very interesting call from an unknown source."

I was surprised by that revelation. "What source?"

"Not really sure, honestly, but," he said, leaning back. "He needed people, and was willing to pay me triple what a regular millionaire ring would pay me, but they didn't want sex slaves or anything, which is what surprised me a little before brushing it off."

I frowned. "That's why you killed my mother.... She lost you your big payday.... When she helped my escape."

"Vicky cost me more than millions on just your head when she let you go," He said. "So, an eye for an eye."

I watched as Melody was confused and upset by his words. "The buyers..... What did they want me for then?"

"She's surprisingly calm in there," the officer said.

I sighed. "Yeah... She's really level-headed," I said. "It can be worrisome sometimes."

"They wanted sacrifices," Raymond said to Melody.

My eyes widen and Melody looked equally shocked.

"Sorry, sacrifices?" Tahlia asked.

"Did he ever mention this before?" I asked.

The cop, who looked equally confused, shook his head. "Never..."

"Sacrifices?" Melody asked.

"Yeah, I figured some cult needed them for Satan or whatever, but man they must be a pretty fucking rich one to offer that amount for just you alone, and they needed about five or six," He said. "If you're good at math, you'd know that's a big number."

Melody looked troubled. "Who were they? A cult with that much money needing sacrifices, they must have told you a name or something, right? Maybe a hint?"

He was quiet. "That answer is the same reason I called you here... To warn you," He said.

I frowned. Warn her?

"Warn me of what?" Melody asked him.

He then leaned in, motioning Melody closer.

Hesitantly, Melody leaned in, and he suddenly grabbed her shoulders, making her yelp as his mouth was at the side of her head.

"MELODY!!" Tahlia and I shouted as I then rushed in and the officers pried them apart, Melody falling back as then we noticed Raymond writhing and convulsing.

I stared in horror as then he looked at us, his mouth foaming as I held Melody close.

"Remember... What I said... Little girl," he strained before he fell limp.

Melody stared in horror as we watched the officers work to revive him, one calling for help.

"Come on," an officer said as he helped us up and quickly escorted us out.

As soon as we were out I quickly held Melody close to me as Tahlia ran up to us.

"Melody," I said as I held her then pulled back and examined her for injuries. "Melody, look at me, sweetheart, are you hurt!? Did he do anything to you!?"

She had a blank look in her face, but she shook her head.

I sighed with relief as I pulled her into a tight hug.

"There are dangerous ears everywhere," she whispered quietly.

I frowned as I pulled back and look at her.

"That's what he said. There are dangerous ears everywhere. Nobody is safe. Especially the blind love," she said, looking up at me with blue eyes filled with worry as she held Tahlia's hand.

I frowned and looked back at the room as a gurney was pulled into the room, a folded black body bag on top ready to put in Raymond.

"Come on," I said, holding her close as we were escorted out.

Had some serious writer's block on ending this, still kind of do, but I promise I will have the next chapter up as soon as I can. I am currently outside the US so it will be a while, but I'll do the best I can. 🌻
