She was a perfectionist and that’s why I hated her.
It sounded horrible out loud. So when I said it, the team stared at me in shock.
So Captain Marvel’s a kid, named Billy. Turns out the world has split into two dimensions. Deep down, I knew that. Just goes to show how much difference there is between the Team and I.
We were on the bio-ship when Wally decided to bring up parents.
It was a touchy subject for everyone but him. He had parents. A far as I know, the others (apart from Zatanna) don’t.
When Wally said something deep about how he never realised how important his mom was until now, I blurted out something I knew I’d regret.
“Same with me and my mom. She was a perfectionist and that’s why I hated her.”
My eyes widened and I slammed my hands over my mouth before I could say anymore. The others stared at me wide-eyed
"You hated...your own mother?" Artemis asked.
"N-No! Uh, look." I sighed and closed my eyes. How do I put this?
"With my mom being off planet a lot…she was worried about how I would be. Just Lana and I. So she kept putting me in extra curriculum stuff that I had to be perfect at. First it was kung fu, gymnastics and acrobatics. Then it was those three and dancing. Then she added piano and extra tutoring, followed by a Japanese class and more kung fu. I just…I guess I always thought I hated her for it, and sometimes I told her that. But really I wouldn’t be the person I am today without any of it. It’s too bad I realised that a second after it was too late,” I explained.
The Team looked at me in surprise. I frowned and looked way. How embarrassing. I probably sounded like a whiney little brat.
It only surprised me when I felt a bunch of people hug me. “No!” I complained with a laugh, trying
to fend off Artemis, Wally and M’gann.
“Miss M, who’s driving the ship?”
When we landed, the back hatch to the ship opened. The others walked out to inspect the island, but Robin held me back.
“Isn’t this a bad time?” I said, not looking at him in the eyes. Or mask, I should say.
“I want you to know why I couldn’t tell you,” He said. I glared up at him, but something caught my attention. A mystic force seemed to be emitting itself from him.
Luckily I had my mask on, so when I surged Midnight mana to my pupils he wouldn’t see.
