━━━━━ ELLIE SAT ON the couch, she held the phone up to her ear as she talked to Charlie who was on the other end. She was in another room that wasn't far from Bella. She knew that eventually Bella would talk to Charlie but for now Ellie would talk to him.
She hoped that she could convince him that everything was alright even if it wasn't. Even if she wasn't sure that she nor Bella would make it. Ellie had a smile resting on her lips as she listened to Charlie talk on the other end of the line. He had mostly been talking about his week at work, but she enjoyed that.
"So El, when do I get to walk you down the aisle?" Charlie asked her.
Ellie couldn't help but chuckle at the question he had asked her.
"I don't know Charlie." She answered honestly. Carlisle stood by the wall listening in on her conversation. "There's been a strain in our relationship recently, so I haven't received any kind of proposal." She spoke looking down at her stomach.
"Do you want me to talk some sense into him?" He asked, causing her once again to chuckle.
"No, Charlie. Everything will work in the long run, I just have to give it some time." She replied.
Carlisle looked down at the ground soon walking away leaving Ellie alone once again to finish her conversation with Charlie.
"Okay, when do you think you'll be stopping by?" Charlie proceeded to ask her, changing the subject.
He wanted to see Bella more than anything but he also wanted to see Ellie, he hadn't seen either of them since Bella's wedding and he was just worried about both of them. The brunette sighed looking out the window, her eyes falling onto the trees that stood tall outside.
"I honestly don't know Charlie. I've been helping Alice with some things and life over here has become just as busy. And then I have the bookstore. It's been a lot." Ellie answered, trying not to give him much information.
"Well, just give me a call when you want to stop by. You know you're always welcome here. You're my daughter, even if I adopted you." Charlie told her Ellie could practically see the smile that rested on his face even if she was physical at the house with him.
"I will, I promise Charlie." Ellie said she turned her head back towards the hallway entrance and saw Jamie leaning against the wall. "Charlie, before I go. Thank you for taking me in after I lost my parent's. I never felt alone when you were raising me." Ellie said she knew that if she were to die she would want Charlie to know that she loved him.
"You're welcome. I'm glad I got to raise you. I love you El. You take care." Charlie told her to come to the end of their conversation.
"I will, Charlie. I love you too."
With those words she pulled the phone away from her ear and ended the phone call. She placed the phone on the table, Jamie moved away from the wall walking over to Ellie and sitting down on the couch.
"That sounded like you were saying your final goodbye, almost like you weren't gonna make it." Jamie said, starting a conversation with her.
"It was, unfortunately." Ellie paused, taking a death breath and exhaling soon after.
"Why?" He proceeded to ask her.
"I may not look like Bella, and I still don't know why I look healthy and she doesn't. But, I have this feeling that once I give birth to this child everything will catch up and I won't be able to hold on long enough. As weird as it sounds I can feel my death getting closer and closer, and it's almost here." Ellie explained, it was the truth and she had known it for sometime now.
"I know, I felt that same way the last few days of my human life." Jamie told her, Ellie tilted her head slightly, seeming to be interested in what he had experienced before he was changed.
"What happened?" Ellie asked him.
"I was home visiting my family, but mostly to see my little sister. I was around 21 or so, my sister had two more years until she was an adult and could finally move out. Our parents were tough on her, they could sometimes be mean to her. She sent a letter asking for me to come back. And when I did and I saw the damage that they had done to her I got a lawyer and I fought for custody." Jamie explained to Ellie.
"What happened? Did you win custody?" Ellie asked, Jamie could tell that she was interested in knowing more about him. But what he was telling her was only half of the truth.
"A few days before the final hearing I started to have a weird feeling. It was like my gut was warning me that something was going to happen to me. And it was right but I didn't listen to it, I ignored the feeling I had and continued with the next few days up until my death." Jamie continued to explain to her.
"What happened?" Ellie questioned, she was really into Jamie's story, she wanted to know why he had become a vampire, and what had happened to his sister.
"I was on my way home from seeing the lawyer, he told me that it looked like I was going to get custody of my sister. But that didn't happen." Jamie looked down at his hands.
"I don't know who attacked me, but they left me in an alleyway. I knew I was going to die, I was stabbed multiple times and I had reason to believe that my parents hired someone to take me out so they could keep custody of my sister. I was on my last few breaths of life when Carlisle found me. He saved my life, but I couldn't save my sister from our parents. I kept an eye on her from a distance, and up until her death she had a family of her own, a husband and a daughter. I showed up to their daughter's parents' funeral but I didn't get close to anyone." Jamie continued to explain to her.
"I did keep an eye on my niece, I checked in on her here and there and she's had a good life too. After Carlisle changed me I met Esme, and she changed my life. She made me feel a part of something good. Shortly after we met, we got married and we stayed with Carlisle and the rest of the clan. And now here we are." Jamie said, finishing his story.
"Don't ever doubt that Carlisle doesn't love you, because he does, and you are the best thing to ever happen to him. He's just afraid of losing you." Jamie said, giving Ellie a soft smile.
"I know, he's the best thing to ever happen to me. He taught me so much." Ellie simply replied, smiling back at Jamie.
