20: Their Confidant

My day started a little early. I may have a lot of time but I wanted to do errands earlier. I drove myself to St. Luke's Medical Center to have my laboratory tests taken for work's requirement. From the previous days, I registered for valid IDs such as Postal ID, Police ID, and got an NBI Clearance.

"Is it done?" I asked when the nurse put on cotton after having my blood extracted.

"Yes, sir. Makukuha niyo din po ang results within an hour. Balikan niyo na lang po." The nurse politely answered and left to take the blood sample to the laboratory.

I have also done urinalysis and fecalysis as per requested of the company. Mabuti na lamang at hindi ako nahirapan maglabas ng mga hinihingi sa mga eksaminasyon na 'yon.

Lumabas muna ako ng ospital. Katirikan ng araw dahil ala-una na ng hapon. I haven't had my lunch yet so I went to the nearest restaurant. I bought myself a meal of rice and a choice of meat viand before munching them.

Also, Cat will be filling her application for the pageant today. First thing I did when I woke up was to call her. She told me how excited she was and how she has prepared for it. I've always been her cheerleader and number one supporter.

I wanted to be with her today. But this is her moment. I don't want others to have their attention to me as I was the controversial and negative boyfriend of the future beauty queen.

I got on my phone and dialed Cat's number.

"Hey, babe!" She answered with a cheerful voice. "How was your tests? Are the results good?"

"I still have..." I looked on my wrist watch. "Twenty five minutes to get the results."

"Oh, alright. Well, we're on our way now to file my application. Wish me luck, babe!"

"Of course, babe. You'll be great."

"Call me later when you get home, okay?"

"Yup. I will." Then I ended the call.

Maikli man kaming nagka-usap pero ramdam 'ko ang hindi pagkalimot namin sa isa't isa. I knew her application day, she knew my medical examination day. I know in the coming days she'll focus on the pageant and I'll let her. Hindi ako maghahanap ng oras. Hindi ako mang-aagaw ng oras para lang makasama siya. If we have to be far for a while, let it be. As long as she achieves her longtime dream, I am no one to block it from her.

Hapon at wala din akong magawa sa condo, I decided to stroll in the mall. Mainit din ang panahon kaya gusto 'kong magpalamig sa labas. I went to Robinsons Magnolia to buy myself something to wear to the fast approaching graduation day. We still have two more weeks.

I went on to a boutique to find something good to wear. I checked on the hangers to find the color I prefer. Well, I asked Cat for a suggestion. She said I'd look good in any color. Obviously, she'll say that. But she told me to get something light-colored long sleeves and anything but black slacks.

I saw these light blue long sleeves and dark blue slacks. Sinubukan 'ko sila sa loob ng fitting room at maayos naman ang pagkaka-fit nito. Maliban sa pantalon na medyo mahaba at loose sa dulo. Ipapa-alter 'ko na lang.

I paid them and went out of the store. Good thing Mom sent me my allowance already. Advance graduation gift na daw niya dahil hindi siya makaka-uwi. Kinda sad, though. But I've faced many important occasions alone, graduation would be just one ordinary day.

As I was walking, looking for another store to visit, I heard a familiar voice called my name.

Hindi agad ako nakagalaw. In fact, my mood shifted from none to annoyance. Of all people, siya pa itong makakakita sa akin dito.
