Midnight left school that day after staying after to study. He slipped in Leah's car with a weird feeling in his body. Nick was nice. For once someone besides Noah and the teachers was nice. It was different. It was--- 'Am I obsessing? I have to be obsessing.'Midnight walked back from the car into his house, he quickly opened the door, trying to walk up the stairs. "Midnight Harper Woods." 'Shit.'
Fawn was at the bottom of the stairs when he tried to escape. He bit his lip and turned. "Yes mom..?"
Her hands were on her hips. Midnight could tell she was angry. Like a weird mom kind of angry. He couldn't stand talking to her now. 'At least it's not Lilly.'
"Get down here right now please."
"Why?" He asked curiously with slow steps down the stairs.
"Because I'm you're mother and I told you so."
'Great.'
Midnight placed his bag on the start of the stairs, his blue eyes staring at his mother. She was now sitting at the table, holding a mug full of tea. It couldn't be good. It never was when she looked like this. "We need to talk."
He sat across from her. "Okay.." Placing his phone face down on the table, Midnight folded his hands on the table. "What's this about?"
"Your homeroom teacher called."
'Shit. Shit. Shit..'
She continued. "He says--you're doing better--" 'Oh?' "But--"
"But?" He lifted his eyebrows at his mother. What else? Was it the thing he thought it was? Did she know? Dawn must have told her. Yet he had not talked to his sister in a while. 'She snitched.'
"Mom..please.." He shook his head in annoyance. "Just tell me."
"He's worried about you. He says you've been so closed off emotionally for the past week, like you have a wall around you. And you seem to have bruises on you--you show up to class late and you're upset--"
"Mom..Forget about it okay? I'm fine. I promise everything is okay. I just have panic attacks every so often. It's getting used to human school and not being able to use my magic freely."
Fawn hesitated. Her dry mouth trying to make out words. He wanted to just go upstairs, not before reassuring her everything was okay. (Even though it wasn't) But he didn't. "Just..if anything is wrong let me know? I'm not always there because of Wil. Or being a part-time guardian but I'm still there for you."
He nodded. "I know mom."
"And Lilly's there too."
He groaned. "Please, please don't start. You know I can't talk to Lilly about anything."
"She's your mother too."
"Not really." He argued. Folding his arms back on his chest. He felt the sting of his arms arise, he moved them steadily. She didn't know about it..he actually hid the fact. And Lilly didn't tell her "Mom listen. I really am sleepy. And I want to go back to my room," Midnight pushed out the chair, walking away from the table and to the stairs. He grabbed his bag and sent a small wave. "I'm going upstairs okay?"
"Mid..."
He didn't bother to continue listening. Midnight trudged up the stairs with his feet feeling heavy and his heart feeling hot. Yeah, he lied, but at this point what could she do? He was already to far down the imaginary hole that no one could pull him out.
Or maybe--
Nope. He was not going there again.
Midnight opened his door and quickly walked to his room and put his bag on the floor near his door. He could feel his nerves itch his skin. The fact that it was hot in his room and taking of his sweater wasn't much of an option made it worse. Nick. He wondered about him. He was so curious. Mysterious. Weird if Midnight could label a normal human like him, that way. But so was Noah. 'Why are they nice to me? Maybe they're different, yeah, but that..why me?'
