Helping his aunt was harder than he thought. Like she said it was off, the borders were completely off. They smelled of evil. Even felt evil.

Delilah walked to the leader hut in front of Midnight. People stared as he walked. Some were afraid. Some were shocked even seeing him. The half-blood.

Cedar was waiting on the side. "Midnight it's good to see you."

"Yeah it's..." He examined around curiously. "Interesting to be here."

"Yes. It must be after so long. How has..your new school been?" 'Of course, she had to ask that.'

"Um well, it's been great. Human school is different because we're not focusing on magic. But I like what we're doing."

"That's good to hear." She sent a nod to him.

Cedar walked him around the base, showing him around the new border arrangements created since he left, even showing him the new editions to the school.

"Midnight is an honorable member to our people. He has the blood of the assassins so he knows their thoughts and knows their actions." Cedar was in the middle of the base, speaking to her people. Her confidence was almost envious. Could he ever be a leader like her? 'Probably not.'

"As your leader, I ask of you to respect him as he helps us through our confusion." She looked at him, with a nod she continued. "He will be coming around once in a while to help us with the mystery. Thank you."

~~~~
Midnight sat on a stump by the edge of the small stream. It was running down the hill and around the bend of the base, it was soothing to hear, especially with the surrounding silence. He picked at the grass.
"You did well today." Cedar was behind him. Her hands in her lap as she stood. "And you were confident. You've improved since you were in school here."
"I will take that as a compliment." He chuckled.
"It was. I remember you when you went here. You were shy, alone. Now I see you're not alone anymore." She sat next to him. "You have Nick. Or is it Nicolas then?"
His cheeks almost caught on fire. "It's Nick."
"You seem to like him." 'Not like that. Not like that.' "Maybe more than you like to say." She hit his shoulder with her own. "How is school anyway?"
"Back to an old topic?"
"I guess."
"It's fine. I mean, besides the fact that I am part evil and I'm not able to use my magic. Even if I don't know how to." He sighed. "Sometimes I feel so inferior to the rest of my family. I just want to be normal and I can't. I'm surrounded by magic and more magic. Then it's oh look! Magic."
"Sometimes we have to be unhappy in our home to learn." Cedar smiled. "You know what happened in my house right?"
"Yeah. You weren't accepted. You dealt with racism when you moved to America."
"Yes." She nodded. "And it hurts. So I know what happens."
~~~~~

Midnight left the base when Fawn had come to get him. Lilly wanted that. Lilly wanted him to be watched for now. 'For now.' He thought with annoyance.

At least the teleport home was quick. LIke seconds. He didn't bother to talk to anyone when he got back. Just let go of Fawns arm and ran upstairs. He slammed the door behind him.

It was weird. The feelings for Nick were still there. Not feelings but--the thing he felt for Nick. The attraction. What did it mean? 'I don't like him. I'm not gay.' When he finally plugged his phone in, after an entire day of leaving it in his pocket. Well, he did take it out when Nicks mom cleaned his clothes. 'Was that supposed to be weird?' He saw a pile of texts on his phone. From Lilly, Fawn, missed calls from both. And Nick.

But one number caught him. Not in his contacts but a random number. And it looked like it was in the area. "Hey it's Kurt. I hope you're doing okay, was great seeing you. Wanna hang out again soon? :)"

Midnight frowned. 'Of course it's Kurt.'

Midnight: "Oh hey Kurt. Yeah um..good to see you too."

Kurt texted back almost imedietly. It was as if he was watching his phone. "Hey! I didn't expect you to respond."

Midnight: "Well I did. What's up?"

Kurt: "Well I was wondering what happened when I saw you. I mean, I woke up being pat down with hot towels and smothered in blankets. Did I do something?"

Midnight: "why are you asking me?"

Kurt: "I was told you were outside with me before I fainted."

Midnight couldn't tell him the truth. How would that go down? "Oh by the way I almost killed you because I'm half evil and I can't control my magic! Also, you tried to kiss me!" He couldn't do that. He bit his lip nervously. "What would Nick do?" He asked himself aloud.

Midnight: "oh Yeah. I found you outside and you were really drunk. I tried to help you but you wouldn't let me so I left." He hoped that was a continuing story.

Kurt: "ohhhh. Okay. Sorry for being a stubborn asshole. You think we can still talk more? And hangout?" He started typing another message after sending the one he sent. "Sure. Weekend after New Years?"

Kurt: "Sounds great."

Midnight set his phone down, grabbing his headphones from his desk and grabbing his sketchbook. He snatched a pencil from his bed stand. 'I guess I will draw for now.'

~~~~
He fell asleep after drawing for a few hours. He drew a car crash scene, like the vision he had. Which was odd because he was still perplexed by the vision. It had been a while since he even had a vision.
And that one was just pointless. Literal and utter pointlessness.
Midnight pulled on a hoodie due to the cold chill in his room. He picked up his phone to check the time. And somehow a text from Nick. "Going out with the boys. You gonna be alright without me?"
"Why wouldn't I be?"
Nick: "I dunno."
Midnight laughed at his message. He was too protective. Even if they were friends. "Okay well. Have fun, have a good new years."
"I will."
Midnight put his phone down, walking up to the window. It was snowing, it was a surprise since usually it snowed during Christmas. It was a full-on blizzard.
Blizzard.
Wait.
'Nick!'
