The week ran by Midnight's hand. He spent the time working on overdue work. Projects he had to do, staying after school and occasionally helping Cedar with the guardians. It wasn't always, but helping the guardians somewhat repaired his reputation. Before he was the potentially dangerous half-blood, now he was like an assassin who was betraying his people, which in the eyes of the deer fairies was good. Finally, though, it was the weekend.

As if the weekend couldn't come soon enough.

Midnight woke up the morning of Saturday, a text from Kurt asking him when they'd be hanging out, and the usual weekend breakfast that Fawn made when she wasn't busy helping Leah. Which she had been doing more of lately.

Or doing more of for a while. He just didn't notice.

"So how was school this week?" Dawn asked while they were eating. She was picking at her food with her eyes glancing up at him. "Fine." Midnight mumbled. "Like always."

"I've heard you have been doing well with Cedar." Lilly commented.

"I guess."

"Midnight..." Fawn placed down her fork. "You should consider Cedar's offer."

"Her offer on what?" He was so confused at this point. She made an offer? 'When was this?' Midnight stopped chewing his food, leaving it in a pit in his mouth.

Fawn looked at Lilly, then at Dawn. "She has mentioned letting you act as a part of the deer fairies.."

"Like a permanent role? Like a successor?"

"No." Dawn picked up her head. "Definitely not. I'm the apprentice to Nova. You can't take that from me."

"You're only the apprentice in training for school. It's an advanced class. It doesn't mean you're becoming leader." Lilly corrected her daughter before taking another bite of her food. "However it was in a prophecy..."

"Yeah so that still means I have a chance." She looked at her brother. "Anyway, what is this whole offer thing about?"

Lilly got up to feed Willow. Fawn had to talk. He guessed there was a reason she wanted her to talk. 'She probably thinks I won't listen to Lilly.'

"Well, the offer is more or less for you to use your powers to tap into your evil side to—for the guardians benefit." Fawn paused to take a breath, also pausing quickly to see Midnight's expression. He was shocked. And it was written on his face. He knew it was from the start of her saying for him to 'tap into his evil side.'

"So what? I force myself to have a vision to know their plan? I can't do that! I've tried it doesn't work. My visions are out of control." Midnight got up to put his plate in the sink. "Besides...I don't have training."

"Cedar said Nova can help you with that." Fawn's voice sounded like she was smiling. "Midnight I couldn't control my visions when I first started getting them either, it always felt like I was out of control. I saw things I didn't understand and drew them, like you do." She paused, taking in a deep breath. "Cedar is very skilled, so is Nova, they can both help you."

Midnight groaned. "What because they have visions too?" He washed the plate off and sat back down next to his sister. "I don't see how me, the half-blood can help. Especially now of all times."

"They weren't sure before. Now that you've helped Cedar they wanted to ask you. You've done well with her. And in a couple months the school year is over so--." Fawn trailed off. Opening her mouth, then closing. Her hand placed on top of his. "Just think about it?"

"Fine. Whatever."

Midnight waited at the old Deer Fairy base for Kurt. It was still protected, and still warm, even if it wasn't used anymore. The small cottage was cozy, full of wood smells and smells of linen. Midnight sat on the couch.
