The darkness seemed empty. It was like the vision he had of the car accident. Except for this time, he didn't see anything for a while. The beats of his own heart were even silenced.

"Get the guards! Get Cedar! Quick we need help!" A young boy cried. He sounded panicked. Why was no one responding? Color appeared but it was dim. Blurry. The boy appeared. It was him. The one who was killed. He was running through the trees, but he wasn't alone. Hard footsteps crushed the dirt on the group, and he stared back; he was hardly into the base.

A cackle filled his ears. One he recognized. Zara was behind him, followed by her daughter and others. "You can't run for long Harnon." She laughed, rolling a knife in her hand. "I know you know something."

"I don't.." He shook his head wildly. "I really don't.."

She ran up to him, nails pressed into his throat. "Where is the boy?"

"What boy?" He tried to ask, his struggled gags making it hard for him to speak. She pressed harder. "Him. The son of good." She poked the knife in the middle. "What's his name?" She pressed hard enough to make him breathe. "Midnight?"

The boy's face suddenly darkened. His dark eyebrows tilted down. "The half-blood is ours." He spat. "You only want to use him for evil means."

"No no. I want him for other reasons." She pressed her mouth next to his ear. "I want him to lead."

"You can't do that!"

"Yes, I can. Where are the rules saying I can't take someone who you goody-goodies don't use." She laughed, her tongue licking her teeth like she was going to eat something. Him being that something. "I want to use him to take over the guardians. Do you know how powerful he could be? He could save the world or destroy it." She hummed. "He's meant to destroy it and you know it."

"He's meant to save it; Nova had a vision about it, even Cedar had a vision about it." He snarled back, spit flying from his gritted teeth. "Delilah sensed it too."

"You know nothing. All you are is a tiny child."

She dropped him to the ground, stomping her foot on his hand. "Get rid of him." She sneered.

Blood, dark red blood spilled from his chest, he jolted up for a minute, then fell limp on his back. He was dead, and Zara vanished with the rest of her crew.

It felt empty. The body was fresh here rather than cold in real life.

He heard Cedars panicked voice soon after that.

"Midnight?"

Shake..another shake.

"Midnight wake up!" Shake again, with a press. He could feel his skin but everything was black. Were his eyes shut? "Midnight?!"

His eyes fluttered, he could control them now. He blinked them open. The previously normal atmosphere was now dimmed. It hurt, and so did his head. "Where am I?" He attempted to say, but it came out garbled. Midnight shook his head. "Finally he's awake." His sister's voice came clear into his head. "That was terrifying, I thought something happened."

Cedar's voice came next. "He's been through an exhausting process. But if he found something out..then we've reached our goal."

Midnight pressed his hand to his head, it throbbed as he had hit it. One of those things he remembered from Levi. Thankfully, he hadn't had to deal with him for a while. "What happened?" It sounded more clear now like he was speaking. Dawn leaned above him. "Well, if I knew I would tell you." She did a head tilt before Cedar pulled her back. "You had a vision."

"Yeah." He groaned, rubbing a hand on his face.

"You were convulsing, your eyes were white, your head kept rolling. It's like you were being possessed." She helped him sit up. "Are you okay now?"

"My head hurts, like hell." Midnight replied. "Other than that I'm fine."

"What did you see?" Cedar suddenly asked, helping him stable on the bed he was on. He looked at her. Worry filled her expression. Midnight didn't want to say. How was he going to say? 'Yeah Cedar the reason we were attacked is because of me. Isn't it always? Anyway, they killed an innocent guardian to try and find me. So. You're welcome.' "Well?" Cedar pressed.

"Look it was--they killed him okay? That's all I know."

"You know more." Dawn argued. "You're keeping it hidden to save your ass."

"Do you?" Cedar then asked.

"No."

Dawn looked at Cedar again with another look that told she knew. Of course she does. 'She's my sister.'

"You could tell Kurt if you can't tell me~~" Cedar almost started to taunt. He knew she would try and use that against him. Even after she almsot walked in on their 'almost kiss' which he wasn't proud of.

"Okay okay..fine. I saw everything. From the moment he tried to call you guys to when he was killed."

"Explain."

"Okay." He took a moment to breathe. It was hard with his chest starting to feel heavy with weights. Or if someone blasted him. "Hernon was looking for someone outside. He started to cry for you guys and then Zara came with Sara, along with some other guardians but I didn't know them. They were taunting him about--"

Cedar widened her eyes. "About? You seem hesitant to tell me." She crossed her arms.

"It was about me." He answered honestly. "She was looking for me. She started to say how she wanted me to lead, how she thought I was the one to save the world or destroy it. I didn't understand what she meant but..." Midnight stopped as be saw Cedar's now worried expression. She glanced behind her, where Nova was frowning. A 'I told you so' frown that scared him. Was Nova right about him? He adjusted again the bed, his hands clutching the sides as he sat up farther. "What did she say?"

"I told you. She wanted me to be their leader and that you had a vision about me saving or destroying the world." Midnight shook his head. "She sounded like she had been searching for me for a long time."

"She might know Cedar. She always seems to be on the outskirts of our base. Especially when he's training." She stood next to Midnight. "I think this war has come sooner than we thought." Cedars cheeks folded in as she stopped in though. "We have to do something now...Nova bring him home, we'll send guards to stand by the Woods residence for protection and—" she quieted. "You'll have to take time off of school."

"Are you serious?!" Midnight moaned. "I can't get out of school! I am almost done with the first semester, I have to stay after school, which I've been skipping for training. My homeroom teacher wants me to pass."

"I understand that," she spoke very quiet, like she was trying to calm him. She wasn't going to succeed. "But if she's already trying to get you than we need to spend every minute you're awake for training."

"No-" Midnight stood. Even if his legs almost gave out he started off towards the doorway. "I won't do that. Or at least--you know what no." He crushed his hands in his pockets and walked out, crossing the border shield. The freezing cold air pinched his previously warm hands. His nose felt prickled.

Reaching the tree exit he heard a crunch. Behind him. It was like someone was following him.

Crunch.

A tree branch breaking? Midnight tried to turn.

Suddenly, a pain burned at his side, one he never recognized. And the world felt weak around him.
