Chapter 28

Jacks POV:

I'm laying on the couch with Maya when my phone goes off. I don't recognize the number but I still answer.

Jack: hello?
Caller: is this Jack Gibson?
Jack: yes. May I ask who's asking?
Caller: I'm Officer Decker with Seattle PD. You're daughter Jaclyn has been in an accident and is being transported to Grey Sloan Memorial.
Jack: what do you mean an accident?
Caller: she was in a car accident. There will be an officer by the name of Officer Tanner. He will be there to tell you everything.
Jack: okay thank you.

It felt someone had punched me in the stomach and knocked the wind out of me.

Maya: babe. What's wrong?
Jack: Jaclyn's been in a car accident. We have to go.

I jump up and throw on some shoes. Maya runs down the hall and comes back seconds later.

Maya: I grabbed her some clothes. With a car accident they probably cut all her clothes off.

I nodded and went to the car. I sped all the way to the hospital. I threw it in park and went walking in through the ER doors. That's when I saw Lucas and Vic come around the corner.

Jack: they call you too?
Vic: yeah
Jack: did she at least get to talk to you Lucas?
Lucas: yeah. She was heading home.

I nodded and we went inside. I saw Tanner and yelled at him.

Jack: Tanner! What the hell happened?
Tanner: maya and Lucas go sit with her please.

They nodded and went in.

Jack: well
Tanner: she was driving and was going through an intersection. She said she heard squealing tires and didn't see anything behind her then doesn't remember much after being hit. Someone blew through the section and hit her on the driver side. When she looked back she kind of swerved a bit. I'm sorry but the cars totaled.
Jack: I don't care about the car. Is she okay?
Tanner: yeah. She has a fractured foot and knee and obviously bruising and swelling but that's it. They said when she swerved it helped lessen the impact so basically. If she wouldn't have swerved a bit she wouldn't be here.

I put my hand over my mouth and ran my other hand through my hair.

Vic: oh my god.
Tanner: I'll let you guys be. I have some paper work to finish so I'll be at the nurses station.
Jack: thank you.

I looked at Vic and took a deep breathe.

Jack: we almost lost her.
Vic: oh my god.
Jack: let's go in.

Lucas's POV:

Maya and I walked over to Jaclyns room and I slowly opened the door.

Lucas: hi sugar.
Jaclyn: (tearing up) dad
Lucas: it's okay. I'm here. You're moms here. Maya's here. You're dads here. It's okay.

I sat down on the edge of her bed and held her hand. Maya came over and sat a bag on the floor.

Maya: I brought you a change of clothes.
Jaclyn: thank you

She nodded and went to go sit in the chair.

Jaclyn: will you come sit with me?
Maya: of course.

She sat down on the other side and Jaclyn leaned against her. I smiled and kept holding her hand until Jack and Vic came in. When they came in she had dozed off. Maya got up and let Jack sit where she was. Vic came over and sat on the rolling chair next to the bed.

Lucas: what did Tanner say?
Jack: he said that she was driving home and was going through an intersection. She told him that she heard squealing tires but didn't see anything behind her and then they hit her. They blew through the intersection and hit her on the driver side. They said the only reason she's alive is because she swerved a little bit when she looked back.
Lucas: oh my god.
