During the next couple weeks I focused on strengthening my quirk, as well as improving my physical strength and endurance as much as possible. The sports festival was not only an opportunity to transfer to the hero course, but it was a nationally broadcasted event and there were several talent scouts from pro-hero agencies that would be looking to recruit.
The day had finally arrived and I was as ready as I'd ever be. As my class and I walked into the arena for the opening ceremony I was completely overwhelmed with the crowd that surrounded us. The entire stadium was packed full and everyone was cheering loudly as the students approached the podium where the hero Midnight was, ready to kick things off.
My nerves had taken over for a moment so as Midnight spoke I began to space out. It wasn't until I realized that a student was walking up to the podium that I snapped back to reality. I recognize that back...I thought wearily. The spikey blonde hair...no...that can't be...
My jaw dropped as the boy turned around at the microphone to face us. His demeanor was completely different from when I had run into him at the coffee shop. He looked calm and aloof, averting his gaze from the crowd and speaking monotonously as he said, "I just wanna say...I'm gonna win."
My eyebrows furrowed and I felt myself becoming consumed by anger. "What in the actual fuck?!" I yelled, but my words were drowned out by the boos of the students surrounding me and the stadium filled with people.
"This guy is a piece of work," I heard Shinso mutter as he shook his head dismissively.
I must beat him. The thought was so powerful and unexpected that I was taken aback for a moment. The thought stuck with me and surprisingly enough it helped me get through for the first few events of the sports festival, driving me to keep pushing forward and make it to the finals.
The finals ended up being a tournament style fighting competition and as I looked at the tournament board I saw that my first match was with Kirishima. Kirishima? Which one is that? I thought, looking around.
"I think that's the red haired one," Shinso said, as though reading my mind.
"Oh?" I said, "And what about you?"
"Looks like I'm facing Midoriya. He doesn't look to be too much of a challenge." he said casually. "Hey," he suddenly turned to me, looking me in the eyes intently. "If it comes down to it, you know we'll have to fight each other to make it to the top."
The thought had been lingering in the back of my mind but honestly I hadn't given it much weight. "Lighten up, Shinso," I said, patting him on the arm and plastering a grin on my face, "Until then, I'll still be cheering you on, okay? Looks like you're up first too, so you better get ready!"
A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips, "Yeah...sounds good."
Dear Readers: Short chapter and yes, I COMPLETELY skipped over obstacle course and cavalry battle because I had no ideas of what to do with that or how to use them to develop characters/relationships. Excited for what's to come though and hope you are too! :)
