I stared at his retreating back, urging my beat red face to cool off. My chest ached and I was finding it hard to breath. Was it my injury or the kiss that had me feeling this way? What Katsuki had just done was a blatant act of dominance and it pissed me off. The bitter aftertaste of jealousy clung to my lips. It felt like such a shitty way to say goodbye and now I was left with the mess of talking to Shinso about this newly developed relationship which he clearly would not approve of.

"Ah...I'm...really sorry about that." I said, slowly turning to face him.

I couldn't bring myself to look at him for some reason. Staring at the ground, I was left with an agonizing silence that stretched between us. I watched as his feet shifted slightly to the side as he spoke.

"He was right, you should get some rest. I'm gonna go."

Panic shot through me as I watched him begin to turn. I opened my mouth to respond, but nothing came out. Suddenly my throat felt dry and scratchy. As if moving in slow motion, he was already walking away. A strangled sound came out of my mouth as I flailed for a moment, becoming aware that I held something in each hand, so I set down my coffee and manga before I chased after him.

As my fingers wrapped around his arm, I was hit with a wave of sadness. The hurt feeling took the breath from my lungs and left me speechless.

What is this? I thought. Why are these feelings so overwhelming?

When he turned and our eyes met it became clear. How had I never seen this before? His hand enclosed over mine as he said, "Y/n?"

"Shinso, please don't -"

"Go home."

His words were a command and everything became cloudy at that point. I felt myself moving but I wasn't sure where I was going or who I was just talking to. My gaze fell downwards as I watched my feet fall into a steady rhythm along the sidewalk. Suddenly something jolted me out of my dazed state as I felt a strong hand wrap around my wrist and pull me back.

"Y/n, I'm so sorry." It was Shinso. His face was twisted in pain as he spoke. "I didn't mean to do that, I was just..."

"Did you just...?"

He had made a promise to me a long time ago that he would never use his quirk on me without my permission and I'd done the same although he was fully aware that I couldn't control mine if a person's emotions were overwhelming enough.

"Shit." He muttered, rubbing his hands over his face. "You were using yours, I could tell by the look on your face."

"I don't have control over it if the other person -" My voice came out louder and more aggressive than I had intended it to before he cut me off.

"I know! I know. I'm sorry. Just," He looked at me then and the turmoil in his lavender eyes broke my heart. "Let me go, okay? I need some time."

Words failed me as I simply nodded my head, and as I watched my best friend walk away, it felt as though I was being stabbed in the chest all over again.

As I slowly walked back towards my house, the ache in my chest only seemed to increase with each step. I hated this feeling and I couldn't stop those words from running through my head over and over again: 'Let me go, okay? I need some time.' They continued to haunt me as I picked up my coffee and manga and headed straight to my room upon entering the house.

I tried to focus on reading the manga but the image of Shinso's face kept popping into my head. The pain reflected in his eyes was so obvious that I wanted to punch myself in the face. How had I never seen it before? How had I never realized that my best friend of all these years had at some point developed feelings for me? There were moments that I had questioned it but in the end I'd always convinced myself that I was looking too much into it. Beyond that, I had never looked at Shinso as anything more than a friend.
