My throat constricted and I felt a tightness in my chest as I heard the screams erupt from the speakers. "I don't..." My voice was barely a whisper as I tried to squeeze the words out. "I don't understand."
But my soft spoken words were swallowed up by the cheers of the psychotic blonde woman. I glanced in her direction to see her leaning forward, her eyes bright and cheerful, as she watched on. A sadistic smile stretched across her face.
"Yes..." I heard the gravely voice of the man with scars and staples littering his face. Looking in his direction I stared in horror at the manic way his face lit up.
"What the fuck is wrong with you people?!" I shouted, and began backing up slowly as some of their eyes moved away from the screen towards me.
The hood that had been up over Todoroki's head flew back, revealing his face for the first time to the person who had been recording the live stream. At this point they had backed away and the camera began to shake as a voice call out, "Holy shit, it's Todoroki's boy! He's gonna' burn the whole place down!"
Meanwhile, the man hunched over with the visor headset furiously mashed away at the buttons on his game controller and I noticed with a sick realization that when he began to grin, the same smile spread over Todoroki's face. There was a live chat on the right side of the screen that started picking up pace as comment upon comment began flooding the live stream. I felt the bile rise in my throat as I began reading them.
User15_sk: WTF? That's the number 1 hero's son! This is fucked up.
Allm1ghtfn: Are you kidding me? Starting to lose faith in heroes for real...
D3ad_insid3: Man, none of us can trust the heroes. This just proves they're a bunch of wack jobs that will go insane and turn against us anyways. It's time for the ~villian era~.
"HA!" The lizard freak exclaimed. "They're eating this shit up. Dabi, good call on getting this chump to follow the kid and live stream this."
My whole body felt numb and I hadn't realized I was still moving until my back hit the wall and I was forced to a stop. None of this made sense. I couldn't comprehend the information that swirled around my mind and the scene before me. It felt like the world was muted except for a sharp buzzing sound in my ear.
And then I heard it. Softly at first and then growing louder with each passing second. The gait I had become all too familiar with of a man I hated with every ounce of my being. I turned in what felt like slow motion to see my father walk into the room, his large hand grasping the hair of...Katsuki.
His eyes were wild, frantically searching the room until they met mine. When our eyes locked, any fight he had been putting up against my father's grip disappeared in an instant. The fear that had been there a moment ago was replaced with relief as his shoulders sagged. There was a metal contraption that enclosed his hands in front of him, as well as a metal device wrapped around his face that covered his mouth, preventing him from being able to speak.
"Katsuki!" I cried out, running towards him, but before I had made it a few steps, I felt a hand grab my wrist and yank me back, hard.
Katsuki's eyes narrowed and his breathing became more rapid as he took a step towards us, but my father's grip on his hair tightened and his voice came out maddeningly calm as he said, "Try it again, boy. I will kill her right in front of you."
Every part of him stilled but his eyes twitched and rage radiated off of him in waves.
"He's so pissed, this is hilarious! Look at him!" The man holding my wrist taunted, as his other hand stretched out to point at Katsuki.
His eyes hadn't broken away from mine. Everything in me ached as the world around me fell away and all I could see, all I could focus on was him. He looked like a dog whose sole purpose in life was to fight, who had been bound and beaten. 10 feet stretched between us but it may as well have been miles. I noticed the dried blood on his neck and my vision was clouded as tears filled my eyes.
"Bakugo," The ring leader of the group stepped towards Katsuki but still he did not break eye contact with me. "You turned me down the first time, and I should really just kill you now. But you know what? I really want your quirk. So you can either join us," He turned towards me then, his blood red eyes peering at me through the cracks of his fingers. "Or we can kill your girlfriend."
A sob escaped my lips and I lurched forward instinctively towards Katsuki. "No, you can't!"
I felt the heat before the burn sunk into my wrist and I cried out as the pain seared up my arm. It was excruciating. Still, I tried to push forward but was quickly pulled back.
"We should have gotten a muzzle for this bitch too."
I don't know who said it because I didn't want to look away from him, couldn't look away. He flinched just slightly and I noticed a tremor running through his body. Wisps of smoke floated up from the metal prison his hands were trapped in.
"I'm going to take this off, so be a good dog."
The man covered with disembodied hands spoke the words as he stepped between us. The hatred I felt for this man, this creature, was all consuming. I wanted to tear him limb by limb and burn the remains. Staring at his back while I willed him to be devoured by the depths of my wrath, I heard a jingling sound as the man dismantled the contraption covering Katsuki's mouth. I was surprised when he didn't speak right away, or rather that he didn't start shouting a slew of expletives.
"So," he said as he moved away to set the metal contraption on a nearby counter. "What will it be?"
Katsuki was staring at me, his gaze intense and fiery. There was an eerie calmness about him now but I didn't miss the way his jaw kept clenching and his mouth set in a hard line. I was shaking my head back and forth, my eyes pleading with him. I knew what he was going to say even before he said it.
"I'll join you."
"No!" I screamed and lunged forward, but this time the heat of the flames that ripped up my arm felt tenfold. Still, I tried to push ahead towards him, the words heavy and painful as I cried out, "No, you can't! You can't do it, Katsuki!"
I felt a sharp pain against the back of my legs and crumpled to my knees. It felt like I couldn't breathe, like suddenly I was drowning and the edges of my vision became hazy. Katsuki had not moved, had not spoken again, and he was looking down at me. There was a flash of something in his eyes that I couldn't read.
A laugh erupted from the leader and filled the space of the room as he turned his attention to me. He slowly began to move closer to Katsuki as he spoke, coming to stand behind him.
"Here's the thing," he said, and leaned forward to speak the words in Katsuki's ear as his voice came to a menacingly quiet tone, "I don't believe you."
