Genre: Angst

Son Chaeyoung was just a simple nerdy girl. A hopeless little high schooler who had not many friends, only a few, little even, but at least they cherished her presence dearly. And as expected, she had a crush on Myoui Mina, the school's star, the school's literal angel, with her magnificent and ethereal beauty captivating anyone's eyes.

Mina knew the younger girl liked her since they were kids after Chaeyoung confessed, but that's it. Nothing special about it anyway, that's what she thought. She would only give Chaeyoung false hopes and 'de-existed' her. Sure, they were really fluent in online conversations, heck even Chaeyoung was in the stage of courting her, but when they always met at school, it was as if Chaeyoung never even existed in Mina's world. Perhaps she was just.....there.

Sure it really hurt the young girl, she couldn't really stand the fact that she had to handle Mina ignoring her needs for her and herself every single day. Of course, she would sometimes talk to Chaeyoung, but that was only for school stuffs; after that, Chaeyoung is back to ceasing to exist again, and she had gotten used to it. That's how much Chaeyoung loved her. She loved her too much to the point she couldn't even give her love up for the girl who seemed to ignore her feelings.

Chaeyoung was the type who had no idea how to start a conversation with her crush, and even she had confronted and opened herself up about it to Mina herself, but all she ever said was that she was sorry for ignoring her, afterwards it's back to the typical again. Chaeyoung had to spend her days facing the japanese girl's ignorance. If she knew that she liked her, why would she ignore her feelings and treat her like she's a property?

It's unfair that Mina was really friendly and talkative with the other girls and guys at school, but when it came to Chaeyoung, silence was the only vocabulary there. Mina was really close to her best friends Momo and Sana, and Chaeyoung's best friend, Jeongyeon, who liked to 'flirt' with other girls, had a crush on Mina, and she seemed to always hang out with Mina, making her smile, making her laugh. The things that Chaeyoung couldn't do. Why? She really wished she was the one to make Mina smile and all that. But it's a wish, nothing more.

And now here she was, watching as the very sight in front of her had happened in the blink of eye. Just a cliche moment in romantic drama stories. She just stood there, her hands trembling as she watched Jeongyeon, her closest friend, and Mina, her lifetime crush, who had always known that she liked her, kissing. Kissing as an officially new couple in a day Chaeyoung wished never existed.

It just happened, though. It's what life is. It's what reality is. Chaeyoung could only make a weak smile as the most dreadful moment in her life had come true. She bitterly chuckled and held her aching chest, her heart about to burst out. She sighed and looked up at the sky as she heard people cheering for the newest couple at school.

"So this is how life treats me afterall huh." she smiled and crumpled the flowers that she was about to give to her crush. She couldn't stand seeing her best friend kiss her crush so passionately with pure happiness, but at least Mina was pleased by her despair. "I'm happy as long as you are, Mina unnie. Even if you're with Jeongyeon unnie, at least she can make you smile." And with that she walked away, as a thought had come up in her mind.

-

She sat on the bathtub after undressing herself and let the hot water flow onto the smooth surface of her body. She sighed in relief and dipped her body partially in, reaching her neck. She had prepared just what she needed for her idea. She took out her phone and decided to text Mina one last time.

She looked through her phone and saw Mina's profile picture.

"Huh, she's changed it into her selfie with Jeongyeon unnie now." she twitched a smile. "Seems like she has forgotten about the one I made for her."

She tapped on the chat and her keyboard showed up instantly as if it was preparing itself for her. She sighed and tapped on it.

Mina unnie, annyeong again there haha. I know we didn't talk again at school, as always, but hey, we always chat every day, right? I just saw you and Jeongyeon unnie today at the court. You were so happy, but hey, I'm happy too for you :) In fact, she makes you smile more than I ever prolly did. You have always known that I've loved you since grade two, and ever since that my love never fades. I'm sorry if I'm just wasting your time as I always do, I promise this is the last time I'll ever bother you again lol. I'm gonna be honest with you unnie. I'm honestly tired. Tired of you giving me the cold shoulder everytime we meet at school. You know I love you, yet you never cared about my feelings anyway, but that's okay. You've found someone tons better than me. I've been fighting my own demons for years, but it's time I finally surrender to them. I'm sick of having to paint a happy mask on my face everytime I see you. You used to always ask me how my day was going, but things change, don't they. Don't worry this isn't a suicide note. Consider it a goodbye one :) I entrust her to you arasseo? If she hurts you, you tell her okay? God if only you cared about me haha. You wouldn't even bother to read this. Just know that, I will always love you for eternity no matter what. You'll always be my penguin, my Minari :)
I love you

And with that last message she had sent, Chaeyoung quickly switched off her phone for good, so that she wouldn't turn back anymore. What's done was done. She grabbed the blade, and gently traced it on her wrist, hitting her blood vessels. Oh how she loved the pain. It felt blissfully agonizing, yet she somehow felt like she deserved the chance to feel it. She loved it. Chaeyoung let the blood drop from her wrist as it dissolved with the water she was bathing in. She let out a long sigh as her breaths were weakening and her eyes were about to shut down entirely. The last thing she ever saw in her mind was nothing but only Mina. She weakly smiled and let out her last breath.

Afterall, Mina was just a crush she would never have.
