Chapter 28: Gwendite

We hovered above the planet we were going to. We were waiting on Lincoln and Kira. Eventually another ship appeared behind us.

"Alright that's them lets go." I say.

Theo and Efren piloted the ship towards the planet. When we landed Kira and Lincoln landed beside us. We exited the ship and Lincoln came over to me. Efren and Theo took a step back. Even though Lincoln had turned over a new leaf people still feared him. Efren and Theo were some of those people. I was Kira and his right hand so, I talked to him all the time.

"Why did you need me and Kira?" Lincoln asks.

"This planet has remnants of Big Brother you have inside knowledge, and I always need Kira and you." I whisper the last part.

Lincoln's posture changes.

"Alright. I'll see what I can do." Lincoln says.

"Thank you." I say.

Lincoln nods, and goes off. I head towards Kira.

"Who's watching Eva?" I ask.

"Helaina." Kira says.

"That's good." I say.

Kira nods. She links her arm through mine.

"You went to the world between worlds?" Kira asks.

"Yeah, I did. You said Lincoln's been there before?" I ask.

Kira nods. My gaze shifts towards him. He was going around checking everything. HIs black cape billowed behind him. He was shaking his head and running his hand through his long black hair.

"How are you?" I ask.

"Oh you know, exhausted. We've got a baby along with establishing ourselves and going on a journey at the same time." Kira says.

"I'm sorry. I know that must be tough." I say.

"It is, but we'll get through it. Although, when we get to this crystal planet it'll be little easier." Kira says.

I look down as I feel the weight of what this meant to everyone on my shoulders again. Kira seemed to notice this. She stopped and turned me to face her.

"Skye, you're going to do perfectly fine. You've done perfectly. You have no need to worry." Kira says.

"But I do worry. I wish I didn't but I do." I say.

"And Lincoln and I worry about you." Kira says.

"You do? I mean I knew you did and I know Efren, Helaina , Theo, Lars, Wren, Felicity, Loki, and Dagur worry about me, but Lincoln?" I ask.

"Of course Lincoln does. He absolutely worries about you. You're his best friend, and he doesn't have many of them." Kira says.

I smile.

"Come on we should probably go help him." I say.

Kira nods, then we head towards him. When we reach him he's crouching down looking at the ground. Kira and I crouch down next to him.

"What did you find?" I ask.

"Well it doesn't look like much, but it's a certain element we used to power a certain weapon." Lincoln says.

"Bad weapon?" I ask.

"Really bad weapon." Lincoln confirms.

"Where would it be located?" I ask.

Lincoln stood up and looked around.

"That building right there." Lincoln says and points.

I stand up and look where he's pointing. It was nothing special, but it was the tallest.

"Why that one?" I ask.

"Tallest building. Best architecture that can withstand the blast from the weapon." Lincoln says.

"Why is it always the tallest building? Why isn't it a normal-sized building?" I ask.

"I'll keep that in mind when I make another super weapon." Lincoln snaps.

"Sorry." I say, then shut up.

"Alright we need to get there quickly." Lincoln says.

"I'll tell Efren and Theo." I say.

"No, they need to stay here and start evacuating the residents. Also, I need to make sure they're out here and keep an eye on the building." Lincoln says.

I hesitate. I was sure Efren and Theo wouldn't like that.

"Skye, I need them to trust me. I need you to tell them that." Lincoln says.

I nod. Lincoln nods and I head over to Theo and Efren.

"So, Kira, Lincoln, and I are going to the building with the weapon. We need you two to evacuate the nearby houses and keep an eye on the building." I say.

"I don't." Efren began, but I cut him off.

"Please Efren I trust Lincoln. You need to trust him too." I say.

Efren sighs. He doesn't look happy about it, but he nodded. I nodded, then headed back towards Lincoln and Kira. We started heading towards the building. We passed someone selling hover bikes.

I looked at Lincoln. He nodded. I paid for two, then I got on one and Lincoln and Kira got on the other. We sped towards the building. When we reached it I parked my bike along with Lincoln and Kira.

They got off and we headed into the building. It was pretty bare. There weren't any people, but I could hear a generator running a few floors up. I looked around. Something was wrong with the generator.

I caught Kira's eye. She nodded at me to tell me she agreed with me.
