Chapter 13: Reconciliation

I had fallen asleep in the cockpit after I had calmed down from my flashback. When I woke up I saw a blue circular light in the dark. I knew it was Felicity.

"Hey Flick." I groan.

I see the circle turn to a side.

"You're up?" Felicity asks.

"Yeah I'm up. Feel like crap, but I'm up." I groan and go to sit up.

I see the dark figure of Felicity quickly get up and head towards me. I felt her hands on my shoulder as she helped me up.

"Flick I'm okay really." I say.

"You and I both know that's not true." Felicity says.

"Do they know?" I ask.

"I didn't tell them, but they know, and before we continue I think I should tell you there's someone else in the cockpit with us." Felicity says quietly.

"Who?" I ask.

"Wren." Felicity says.

I feel my heart seize up. I focus on someone else's breathing, and I know he's awake.

"Flick, can we have a moment?" I ask.

"Of course." Felicity says, then leaves the cockpit.

I get up and walk to where Wren was sitting. I take a seat next to him. He had his elbows resting on his legs, and his face in his hands.

"Wren?" I ask gently.

Wren didn't answer. I lifted my hand to put on his shoulder, but hesitated, then put it back down.

"Wren, please talk to me. I'm right here." I say.

Wren dropped his hands, and clasped them together so he was resting on his forearms. He turned to face me.

"Two days Skye." Wren says.

"I know." I say looking away.

"You were poisoned for two days and then you come to get help. Plus you didn't even tell me you were here." Wren says.

"We weren't talking." I say.

"I still want to know you're okay. I wilt away the days I don't see you Skye, you're my best friend, and I love you. Probably more than someone should love another person." Wren says.

"Wren." I sigh, and this time I do put my hand on his shoulder.

He turns to look at me. Paths of tears shone in the starlight. I wipe away the tears that had fallen from his eyes. I leaned forward and kissed his cheek. I felt him relax under my kiss.

"I love you too Wren." I breathe.

"Then why do I feel like you don't." Wren asks.

I hold Wren's face in my hand, and turned his face towards me. My other hand held his hand in mine.

"Wren I know this is hard for you. I know it is. I'm sorry about that. If I could go back to when it was just me and you a boy and girl who love each other I would." I say.

"Why can't we?" Wren asks.

"You know why." I say.

"I know why it's needed. I don't know why you feel the need to do it." Wren says.

I rub my thumb over his hand.

"My whole life things have been taken from me. My mother, my culture, my planet, my identity. I lost all of it. Yes, I gained some back, but not all and it's not the same. This was given to me. I'm given a chance to protect my people from what I went through. Eva won't have to hide what she is because of me. I'm giving a life, a future to all these people, and more. Crystal-people keep the galaxy safe. Protecting more people. It's an honor to have this." I say.

"Yes, but Skye it's still taking from you. It's taking your life. Yes I know about that. And it's taking your future and free-will from you. Doing this will control your life.

"I know. It's worth it though Wren. I'm giving people a future." I say.

This time Wren holds my face in his hands. He rests his forehead against mine.

"But why must it take your life?" Wren asks.

I feel tears coming from my eyes. Wren was crying too.

"We don't know that it will. It's a possibility." I say.

"It's such a risk though." Wren says.

"And it's a risk I'm willing to take." I say.

"Why must you be so stubborn?" Wren asks letting out a small laugh.

I know he was letting the issue go, at least for now.

"Because I'm a Helfrifian." I respond back giggling slightly.

"Yeah that must be it." Wren says.

I feel his right hand leave my face, then brush a strand of my hair behind my ear. I could feel his hand shaking.

"Thank you." I whisper.

"For what?" Wren asks.

"Loving me through all this." I say.

"Skye, let me get this out right now. I will always love you." Wren says.

I giggle and tears come from my eyes again. Wren's thumb came up and ever so gently brushed my lips. I looked up through my eyelashes at Wren's incredibly warm brown eyes. I nodded slightly to show him it was okay.

"I've missed you." Wren says.

"I've missed you too." I say.

Wren smiles, then he leans in. His lips land gently on mine. I feel him deepen the kiss. I grabbed behind his neck and pulled him closer to me. His hands found their way to my waist, and he pulled me onto his lap.

I wrapped my legs around around his waist. Wren pulled away from me, and he smiled at me as he took me in. I blushed and looked down. Wren chuckled, then wrapped his arms around my back and pulled me closer to him. His lips landed on my lips again.

He gently stood up, then laid us down so I was beneath him. I giggled, then pulled Wren closer to me.
