It had been awhile sense I broke up with Wren. It still hurt, but I wasn't brooding in my room about it anymore. I know everyone was still skirting around the topic of Wren and I but it didn't really bother me. I sat in the gathering area with Loki. He was stretched out next to me and I was scratching behind his ears.
Felicity sat next to me she was doing her health check of me.
"How do I look?" I ask.
"You seem a little better you're still not the epitome of health, but you're better than you have been," Felicity says.
"I'm still dying though aren't I?" I ask.
Felicity sighs.
"Yes you are, but the rate you have been dying seems to have slowed down," Felicity says.
I nod. She starts putting everything up. I stared absentmindedly at the wall across from me. I heard the door to the cockpit open and I whipped around to see Efren standing in the doorway.
"Skye, it's good you're here I was going to go find you," Efren says.
I stand up. Loki growled upset that I moved him, but then stopped.
"What's up?" I ask.
"We have a distress call," Efren says.
I nod and follow him into the cockpit. Helaina was in there along with Dagur, Lars, and Theo. On the hologram table I saw a planet and a red flashing light on the surface. Felicity squeezed in behind me.
"The distress cal came from the planet Selene?" Felicity asks.
"Yeah it's weird, but we can't ignore it," Theo says.
"No we can't," I say.
"Well I'm glad you think so, because you're going without me to Theo," Efren says.
"Wait why?" I ask.
"They asked for a specific type of helper. Theo and I are the wrong gender and Helaina doesn't have the crystal-force," Efren says.
"They asked for a female crystal-user?" I ask.
They nod.
"Why not Kira or any other female crystal-users following us?" I ask.
"Kira is going to be in charge of the fleet for a little bit, because the rest of us are expected somewhere else as for other crystal-users they don't have to do the trials, you do. We don't know what they are so we have to take everything," Efren says.
I sigh, but nod.
"Okay," I say.
"You can take Felicity with you. She's also a female and she's your personal nurse," Efren says.
I nod.
"The coordinates are already plugged into the Ghost," Efren says.
I nod. Efren grabs my shoulder with his hand.
"Be safe," Efren says.
I nod.
"You too," I say.
Efren laughs, then pulls me into a hug. I hug him back tightly.
"You come back promise me," I whisper.
Efren hugs me tighter.
"Of course. Skye, what's wrong?" Efren asks.
I pull away and force down the tears that were forcing their way up.
"I don't know what would happen to me if I lost you," I say.
Efren stared at me his eyes full of concern. He pulled me back into a hug and held y head to his chest where I could hear his heart beating.
"You would be fine. You're stronger than you give yourself credit for," Efren says.
I tense and Efren must have felt it, because he said, "Don't worry I'll come back. I can't let you out if my sight without you blowing something up," Efren says.
I giggle, then pull away. I tell everyone else good-bye then get into the ghost with Felicity. I turn it on, then we're released from the Spector. I pilot the ship down to the planet, the coordinates were leading me. The planet itself was stunning.
Everywhere I looked I saw trees. They were incredibly tall and old. They seemed to cover the whole planet. I felt my heart speed up at the idea of running through them. I shook my head I would explore later.
Right now there was a distress signal I needed to help. I landed on the planets surface and turned off the ship. I get out along with Felicity. The second my feet touched the ground I wanted to run, but I held my ground. I heard Felicity gasp.
I looked over at her and saw that her face was lit up with amazement, and there was a child-like innocence to it. I smiled. I wondered if this was her first time seeing a forest. I let her enjoy it for a little longer before I reminded her we were here to find the location of the distress signal on my locator. I walked through the trees Felicity following me, then I came to a stop.
Apparently I was right where the distress signal was coming from. I looked around, but only saw trees. The first thing that ran through my head was trap. I heard a twig snap and I summoned my swords whirling around to face where the sound came from.
"Flick, Infrared scan of the trees," I whisper.
I heard whirring and knew Felicity was switching gears.
"Anything?" I whisper.
"Several heat signatures in the trees," Felicity says.
I look up into the canopy and focus really hard. I notice some shapes high in the branches. They wore camouflage and I could tell they were all females. I sheathe one of my swords.
"I received a distress signal. I'm here to help," I say calmly and slowly.
"My name is Skye," I say.
One of the females started down after I said that.
