When we met up with Helaina and everyone else they were catching us immediately up to speed. I was listening, but my head was lowered. If I looked up I saw Wren's face and he was livid. When Helaina ended the briefing we nodded and I headed to my room keeping my head down. When I got into my room I heard the door close behind me.
I looked up into Wren's face.
"Are you okay?" Wren asks.
"I'm as good as I can be," I say.
Wren nods, then he starts talking in controlled breaths, but I knew his temper was about to flare up.
"Wren," I began.
"You should have taken me!" Wren snaps.
"Wren, I can't take you on every expedition I am expected to go on. Sometimes there's no time other times I literally cannot because it is only for crystal people," I say.
"And I get that, but it seems every expedition you never bring me," Wren says.
"I'm sorry you feel that way," I say rubbing my eyes.
"I just want to protect you," Wren says.
"Wren, I don't need protecting," I say.
"You don't have to do everything on your own," Wren says temper spiking.
"I'm not on my own out there," I snap. "Efren, Theo, sometimes Kira and Lincoln are with me," I hiss.
"But no-one can protect you better than me!" Wren says.
"The best person to protect myself is me! No one understands that! I'm trained to be the best in bow staff and I am! I am damn good at using a blaster and I'm not the best, but I'm pretty good at swords! I have a pretty strong understanding of the crystal force, Hell I'm a vessel for it! I'm not someone that needs to be babied!" I say y temper rising.
"I didn't mean it like that!" Wren snaps.
"Even if you didn't you would prefer me to stay on the ship while you go fight and I'm sorry Wren, but that's not who I am! Ever since I was born I was raised to fight! My planet was attacked, I was kidnapped, I was a thief, I was a bounty hunter, and now I'm part of the Resistance there is no bone in my body that is going to allow me to stay safe on the ship while other people risk their lives when I can help!" I shout.
Wren rubbed his temples and then stopped.
"And that's the problem!" Efren says.
"How is that a problem?" I demand.
"You can't be everyone's hero! You've literally taken a cosmic force into your body to help people and the result is killing you! You can't be everyone's hero!" Wren says.
I sigh and sit down on my bed. I held my head in my hands. I thought for a long time before realizing what I needed to do and my heart broke.
"Wren I'm tired of fighting with you," I say.
Wren nods, but doesn't say anything, because he knew I had more to say.
"You have always been the first friend I ever had and that will never change, but this. . ." I say gesturing to both Wren and me, "Is not working,"
"Skye. . ." Wren began.
"Please let me finish," I say taking in a shaking breath.
"I have tried and longed for this to work because you're safe and I needed a safe place to have, but that's not fair to you. I love you Wren I will always love you, but it's just a different kind of love. You want a family with kids and I don't. This type of lifestyle I live would always keep you in a state of worry, I am not the type of person to stay out of danger and I don't want to put you through that," I say.
I take a deep breath.
"I think we need to break up Wren," I say.
As I said that tears leaked through my eyes and fell onto my lap. Even though I knew it was the right thing to do it still hurt.
"I think you're right," Wren says.
I nod.
"Skye, I'll always have a special part of my heart for you and I hope we can remain friends even though I know it might take awhile, but you're right. We want different things and I know you are not the person to stay behind and let other people protect you," Wren says.
I nod.
"I'm going to get my stuff gathered, then leave on my ship," Wren says.
I nod.
"I'll go tell Helaina and everybody," I say.
Wren nods. I got up and walk to the cockpit. Everyone was in the cockpit and I had managed to stay strong The Who;e way there, but Helaina saw me walk in and knew something was wrong almost immediately.
"Lars, take the wheel," Helaina says.
"What?" Lars asks.
"Take the wheel," Helaina says menacingly.
Lars doesn't argue. He immediately does. I notice Efren in the co-pilot seat watching me cautiously. Felicity sat to the side. Theo was also watching me.
"What's wrong?" Helaina asks under her breath and only to me.
I looked into her eyes and lost it. I managed to get out,
"I broke up with Wren," Before immediately breaking down and sobbing.
Helaina took me into her arms and just held me tightly. She gently stoked my hair and softly shushed me.
"It's okay just cry. I'm right here," She whispered.
We sat down and she cuddled me on the chair. I could feel Theo and Efren empathizing with me. I know Lars was too, but I couldn't feel it. Felicity had come over and started stroking my hair while Helaina gently held my hands.
"It's okay," Helaina whispered.
I let out another sob.
