THE LAST DAY was a day of them setting up traps all over the courtyard for the Governor and his men to walk into. Ella hadn't done much other than sitting and feeding Judith. Beth still talked to her about the supply runs they'd be doing here soon whenever she could. Ella liked that she still talked to her about things that wouldn't happen for awhile.
But then the accident happened. Merle was killed by the Governor. Daryl pretended it didn't affect him, but oh did Ella know that it hurt him quite alot. She could see it on his face. Ella knew what denial and pain was like, she herself was in that stage of grief for quite awhile, now she just couldn't shake off what happened for she was angry.
And today, they left the prison. They packed up things in a hurry to make it more believable and only took things that would make the most sense. It was a diversion so that they could bounce on them with some gunfire.
Ella didn't go with Glenn, Rick, Maggie, Carol, Daryl or Michonne, she went with Hershel, Beth, Judith and Carl out to the forest where they were holed up with most of their things. She sat outside the car on a lawnchair, concealing herself behind the car so that no one, if they were running, would cast a second glance her way.
She pushed Judith's arm underneath the blanket. The baby would catch a cold. Ella held Judith inside her jacket while also being bundled up in a blanket. Ella's cheeks were rosy from the cold temperature, her fingers almost numb from not keeping them warm.
Judith reached her wandering hands up to Ella's necklace, giving it a tug — a soft babble came from Judith's lips as her fingers curled around the number twenty-two. With a small smile, Ella pulled the necklace away. She would love her to wear or to hold this necklace once day, but right now that day wasn't here, she would break it.
Beth made her way towards the sisters, readjusting her beanie to fit her head better so her ears would quit freezing. "Is she hungry yet?" Beth questioned.
"Well, she ain't fussin' or nothing. I don't think she's ready," the brunette Walsh woman spoke up, her gloved hand moving from Judith's arm to her stomach. "It hasn't even been an hour." her eyes amusingly looked at Beth.
Distant gunshots filled the air. Ella held her hands to Judith's ears so she wouldn't hear, so she wouldn't be perturbed and cry from the peculiar noises. She hoped plugging an infants ears weren't harmful. She never had a sibling before, and she never had to care for Carl when they were younger and when the world wasn't shittier than shit. If only she took a child development or a baby class, then she would've known what is good or bad.
Carl stood up. He was upset. He pointed an angry finger at Beth and Ella. "Why do you two care so much about the baby rather than everyone defending our home?" he glared.
