"𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚑𝚊𝚙𝚙𝚢 𝚗𝚘𝚠? 𝚑𝚞𝚑? 𝙳𝙾𝙴𝚂 𝚃𝙷𝙸𝚂 𝙼𝙰𝙺𝙴 𝚈𝙾𝚄 𝙷𝙰𝙿𝙿𝚈?!?"

Daniel and I stood outside of our teenage daughter's room, listening in.
One of her friends had come over, Daniel and I both hated her. She was toxic and we could see her trying to belittle our daughter any way she could.
But we weren't going to intervene with her life because she was almost sixteen years old and could handle her own friendships.
We heard her friend start to speak.
"Listen, don't get mad, but I told Blake that you don't want to go out on that date anymore and that I would go with him instead."
"You what?"
Our daughter sounded broken.
Daniel and I looked at each other, worried looks on our faces. This girl was damaging her mental health. Bad.
"I was only looking out for you. I just don't think you're everything that he needs and he would probably leave you, and I don't want to see you upset."
All of a sudden, we heard a crash.
Daniel lunged towards her door, but I grabbed him, making him stay out.
"Are you happy now? Huh? DOES THIS MAKE YOU HAPPY?!?"
It was our daughter.
"What?" her friend asked, clearly surprised.
Our daughter never lashed out at anyone, kindness was something Daniel and I started teaching her the day she was born.
"I really liked Blake and you...you just ruined everything! Like you always do! Just leave, get out and don't talk to me ever again. You're not a real friend!"
Daniel and I watched as her friend swung the door open and stormed out of our house, hopefully for the last time.
We both perked up when we heard our daughters sobs.
"Let me handle this one," Daniel whispered, rubbing my arm.
I nodded and watched from outside.
He slowly made his way into her room, seeing her crying into her pillow.
"Hey," he breathed, sitting down on the bed.
"Don't even try to make this better, dad. There's nothing you can do," she grumbled.
"No, I think you're wrong about that."
She sat up and looked at him, mascara all over here cheeks.
"You know something funny? When your mom and I were in high school, we were almost in the exact same situation as you. She had a friend, kind of like yours. Now, your mom and I were head over heels for each other, nothing could change that. But this friend, she like...worshipped me. She wanted nothing more than to be my girlfriend. So, she pretended to be your mom's friend and she used do anything she could to make it seem like I was a terrible person, just so that my mom would stop liking me. Lucky for me, your mom realized that she was a crazy bitch and decided to leave her at a gas station while driving home from a party. That night, I asked your mom to be my girlfriend. That girl never bothered either of us ever again," he told.
"That's sweet, Dad, really. And I'm sure you and mom were everyone's favorite couple, but how is that supposed to help me?" she asked.
"Well, I'm not done yet. Moral of the story is, no matter what anyone else does to try and bring you down, do not let them. By that, I mean, text that Blake kid and set things straight. Go out on a date with him, and show that girl that nobody messes with you. You're a strong girl, that's a fact. You got that from your mother. So, stop crying, stop feeling sorry for yourself, and go get your man" he smiled, punching her arm lightly.
She smiled and jumped into his arms, causing a huge smile to form on his face.
"Mom, you can come in now, I know you're out there listening," she said.
I laughed and walked in, sitting down on her bed.
"No offense, Dad, but how did you get someone like mom?" she questioned.
"Um, offense!" Daniel said, placing his hand over his chest.
"I fell for your father because of who he was. He was kind and generous and that's why I fell in love with him. His rock hard abs were just a bonus," I laughed, causing our daughter to shake her head and run out of the room, clearly scarred for life.
"We were definitely the cutest couple," he smiled, pulling me into him.
"Still are. Two beautiful people with one amazing child," I corrected.
"Forever," he sighed.
