Daniel and I have been close friends since we've been in diapers.
Literally.
Our moms have pictures of us sitting in booster seats at restaurants, right next to each other.
We've been through literally every single thing together.
We were by each other's side on the first day of preschool, the first day of elementary school, the first day of middle school, and the first day of high school.
He pulled my first tooth out for me in first grade. I sat in the ambulance with him when he broke his leg at football is fourth grade.
He stayed at my house for a whole week when we were in sixth grade because I got my first period and he was convinced I was dying.
He went to all of my field hockey games and I went to all of his football games in high school.
We would do anything for each other, literally. There wasn't a single thing we wouldn't do for each other.
One time, when we were in eleventh grade, I ran to the store late at night and to buy him condoms and then hauled his drunk ass home from some party.
He always stayed at my house when I was sick and bought me anything I wanted. One time when I had the stomach flu, I convinced him to buy me an ipad, and he bought it.
I was by his side when he got his wisdom teeth out. I stayed over and took care of him for four days.
When my first boyfriend cheated on me, he beat his ass at a pep rally and then stayed at my house and ate four tubs of ice cream with me.
Everyone in our school was convinced that we would end up together.
I developed a crush on him in middle school and it never went away. I've always loved Daniel more than anyone in the whole world.
When we graduated, he went to LA to follow his dreams and I went to UCLA, so we weren't far from each other.
During my freshman year of college, Daniel joined a band and got a girlfriend. I love his band mates and became good friends with all of them.
His girlfriend is not my favorite person, though. Nobody likes her, not even his band mates and biological brothers.
She's using him, it's clear to everyone. His friends and brothers try to tell him, but he just gets mad. Just by looking at him, I can tell he knows that they're right, he just doesn't want to believe it.
Daniel hates being lonely, I know that.
Daniels bandmate, Corbyn, and I are the closest out of everyone.
He's also the only person in the whole world that knows how I truly feel about Daniel. He's really the only one I can talk to and he's been my shoulder to cry on for as long as I can remember.
He always tries to assure me that Daniel will come around, but I doubt it.
Because now I'm a senior in college and that bitch still has Daniel wrapped around her finger. Every time she's around, he stares at her with those big blue puppy dog eyes, a longing look in them. He buys her pretty much anything she wants. He always cooks for her and she won't even give him a simple kiss.
We all watch it happen.
Every time he tries to hug her on kiss her, she dodges it.
Corbyn and I always mock her. As soon as we see it happen, Corbyn acts like he's going to kiss me and I jokingly push him away, which usually pisses Daniel off because he knows that we are mocking his girlfriend.
Today was an ordinary day. I was sitting in apartment, working in an essay, when I got a text from Corbyn.
He told me to come hang out at their house because Daniel brought his girlfriend over and he was bored.
I happily got ready, throwing on some loose jeans and a hoodie. I put my hair in two dutch braids and put on a little bit of makeup.
Before leaving, I slipped on my Nike airs and grabbed some Harvest Cheddar sun chips, Corbyn's favorite.
I drove over to their house and let myself in, throwing the bag of chips at Corbyn, who was sprawled out on the couch.
"Hey, thanks!" he smiled, digging into the bag.
I shook my head and smiled, plopping down on the couch, whipping my phone out to answer an email from my professer.
"So, what's the 411 today?" I asked Corbyn, while typing a response on my phone.
"Mm, get this. They went shopping on Melrose today and when they came back, she had like four bags from like Lululemon and a bunch of other shut from expensive stores. He was then going to make food while she put her shit upstairs and he went in for a kiss and she turned so that her fake fucking hair smacked him in the face. I feel bad for the man, but hell, he doesn't make an attempt to get out of the situation," Corbyn said, his mouth full of food.
"Typical," I scoffed, leaning over to take chips, which only earned a smack on the hand from Corbyn.
"Mine," he said, pulling the bag into his chest.
"Remind me to never bring you food while you're on your man period," I joked.
He glared and then we burst out laughing, only stopping when we saw both Daniel and his girlfriend, staring at us, looking pissed.
"Oh, hey, Daniel, what's up?" I asked, casually.
It's not out of the ordinary for me to show up to the house unexpected.
"Why are you both so fucking rude to my girlfriend?" he snapped, arms crossing over his chest.
My breath hitched and I didn't know what to say in fear of making him even more mad or hurting his feelings with the truth.
Corbyn, who obviously doesn't care about much, took the blunt route.
"Oh...cause I don't like her," he stared, causing me to hold back a laugh.
"Is that fucking funny?" Daniel asked, his eyes piercing into my soul.
I just shrugged and looked away, not feeling like dealing with this right now.
"Well, what's your reasoning?" Daniel asked.
Corbyn gestured towards me.
"Hey, it's your time to shine. Get it off both our chests," Corbyn said, sending me a reassuring smile.
"Maybe because you deserve way better, Daniel. I've know you my whole life and I know you hate being lonely, but you can't be with someone who's showing you fake love. She wants you for money and that's about it. There's not an ounce of love there," I said.
"I do love him!" his girlfriend shrieked.
"When you love someone, you don't dodge their kisses. I might now have had a boyfriend since sophomore year of high school, but I know how you treat someone in a relationship and they way that you treat him isn't right. You're mean to him and Daniel, I see it in your eyes that the things she does and says hurts. Don't think I didn't hear you crying in the bathroom a few days ago," I said, my voice raising as I stood up from the couch.
"This is absolute bullshit, she doesn't hurt me!" he yelled, anger filling his eyes.
I stepped back, Daniel has never yelled at me before. Corbyn sat up, obviously concerned that Daniel was yelling at me.
"Yeah, you're just jealous, aren't you? You just want to steal my boyfriend!" his girlfriend yelled at me.
"Maybe she's right! You were never happy for me, you've always hated her!" Daniel added.
Tears started to fill my eyes and Corbyn stepped in front of me.
"You have no right to yell at her like that. Daniel, this is your best friend that you're talking about. She only wants the best for you and you treat her like this? You've got some rethinking to do!" Corbyn defended.
"Oh, shut it, a Corbyn. It's not even any of your business," his girlfriend snapped.
Corbyn ignored her and turned to me.
"Hey, go home, sweetheart. I'll come over in a little, but I'm going to try to talk some sense into him. Everything will be fine, I promise," he said, rubbing my arm.
I took one last look at Daniel before running out the door.

❀︎

I laid in bed, it was about an hour later, when I heard a knock at the door.
I opened it to see Corbyn, who quickly hugged me.
"Hey, Corbs," I sighed.
"So, I've got some news for you," he said, pulling me to my couch.
"After you left, I dragged him away from his girlfriend and basically screamed at him for fifteen minutes straight. And you are never going to guess what he finally admitted," Corbyn said.
"Hm?"
"He loves you."
I looked up to see Corbyn smiling me, knowing it's the one thing I've wanted to hear for years.
"So, he went back inside to get his girlfriend and was like 'pack your shit and go! get the fuck out of my sight!' and she was all like 'come over here and make me' and I was just watching this whole thing play out. It was literally crazy. They fought for like forever and then she finally left and now he's upset, so I think you should come home with me and get your mans," he said, smiling big the whole time.
I smiled and we jumped off the couch, running to his car. We were halfway down the stairwell of my apartment complex, but we had to turn back because Corbyn forgot the Cheddar sun chips.

❀︎

We burst through the door to the boys house and I ran upstairs while Corbyn settled on the couch with his Cheddar sun chips. Or my Cheddar sun chips that he stole.
Anyways, I ran to Daniel's room and bursted through his door, not even bothering to knock.
As soon as he saw me, he pulled his bed covers over his face, trying to hide his hurt facial expression.
I sat down and pulled the covers away, then leaned down and kissed him.
His lips tasted like Cheddar sun chips.
I pulled back and looked at him, confused.
"Did you kiss Corbyn?" I asked.
"What? Ew, no!"
"Your lips taste like Cheddar sun chips," I informed.
"Yeah, I was eating them while Corbyn was at your place."
"You mean to tell me that you have your own Cheddar sun chips here?" I asked.
He nodded, confused.
"Oh, that little bitch is gonna get it!" I said, standing up to go beat Corbyn for stealing my food when he has the same thing at his house.
"Wait, wait, stop. You can beat Corbyn later, just...stay here and kiss me again," he said, pulling me back down.
I smiled and laid down on top of him, kissing him slowly.
After getting ourselves into a heated make-out session, we broke for air.
"Hey, I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have said the things I said and you were right about her all alone, I just was scared that you would never love me back," he admitted.
"Daniel, I've always loved you. I fell in love with you that day in seventh grade when we went to the lake with our friends and that jerk, whatever his name was, threw me into the water against my will. I remember watching you beat the crap out of him. And I'll always remember how you wrapped me in a towel and carried me home, then proceeded to cuddle me for the rest of the day. I'll always remember that day. It was the day I confirmed my feelings for you," I told as I gently ran my fingers through his fluffy hair.
"I love you," he whispered, propping himself up on his elbows to kiss my face.
"I love you too. Now, I need to go beat the shit out of your band mate," I said.
"There he is," Daniel said, pointing to his door.
I turned around to see Corbyn, a huge smile on his face and his hand shoved inside the chip bag.
"Hey, it's about time you two kids got together. I'm be on my way, though. I'll close this door, just make sure you use protection," Corbyn joked, then laughed at his own joke.
I stood up and walked over, prying his hands off the chip bag.
He looked at me, confused, as I placed a hand on his chest and pushed him out of the room and into the hallway.
"Just so you know, you have your own Cheddar sun chips here," I informed.
I stole a chip from the bag and ate it before dumping the remaining chips on Corbyn's head.
"I love you, Corbyn," I smiled and then slammed the door in his face.
As I walked back to Daniel's bed, I heard him laughing on the other side of the door.
I laid down next to Daniel and was about to kiss him when we heard Corbyn yelling.
"I'm serious about using protection! I am NOT ready to be an uncle!"
We shook our heads cuddled into each other, laughing as we listened to Corbyn vacuum up the chips.
