I love Daniel and I love my mom with my whole entire heart, but I had to get out. My mom is a wonderful person and I love her so much, but sometimes she puts way too much pressure on me. I know she wants what's best for me, but I'm not perfect and she doesn't understand that.
Daniel understands, though. He knows how much pressure I'm under and he tries to help me through it, but there isn't really anything he can do to help me. I know he tries his hardest and he does help me, but I'm just exhausted.
Although it wasn't my brightest idea, I decided to run away tonight. It's Christmas Eve, so it's not a good time at all, but I don't have a choice. I decided the best place for me to go was New York City, since it would be hard to find me in such a huge city. Right now I was walking through Time's Square, just enjoying my time alone. Of course I wish Daniel was with me, but it was also nice to be alone.
I had booked a hotel room for a few days, I decided it would be best to stay away for more than one day.
I knew my mom would freak out and probably kill me when I got home, but I didn't really care. I have to start doing what's best for me.
I know by doing this I'm hurting Daniel. Hurting him is the last thing I want to do, but I knew he would be okay. I knew he would be upset when he wakes up Christmas morning without me by his side, but I knew that he would be okay.
I left him a note, which told him that I am safe and that I love him.

Daniel rolled over in bed, excited to see his girlfriend on Christmas morning. He rubbed his eyes and focused on the empty space beside him. His eyebrows furrowed as he looked around the room, confused.
He brushed it off and assumed that she was already up and making coffee or breakfast with her mom.
Daniel sat up in bed as he heard harsh knocking on the door.
"Daniel?" a worried voice asked.
Daniel quickly got out of bed and walked to the door, opening it to see his girlfriend's mom. She was holding a piece of paper and she had a panicked look on her face.
"What's wrong, what happened?" Daniel asked, worry coursing through his body.
"She...she ran away! I don't know where she is, I don't know why she would do this or what's going through her head, but she really ran away!" The concerned mother explained.
Daniel took the note and read over it, tears starting to form in his eyes. He knew his girlfriend was struggling, but he didn't think she'd really do something like this. Not only was he upset that she felt the need to run away, he was scared because he had no idea where she was and he didn't want anything bad to happen to her.
"I'll find her and bring her home, I promise," Daniel said, hugging his girlfriend's panicked mother.
Daniel quickly whipped out his phone and called his girlfriend, praying to God that she is safe.

𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙞𝙣 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙮𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮.....

I pulled my phone out of my pocket as I felt it buzzing, knowing exactly who was calling.
I drew in a shaky breath as I stared at Daniel's name on the screen, contemplating what to do. I could answer it, I knew that would make Daniel happy, but I knew hearing his worried voice would make me cave and go home. I could also ignore it, but I knew that would make Daniel's anxiety shoot through the roof and he would probably become hysterical, all because he would be worried about me.
I didn't answer in time, but he called again, immediately.
This time, I answered, completely unprepared for what was about to happen.
"Hey, Daniel," I said, my eyes darting around the hotel room.
"Oh, thank God, you picked up. Please tell me where you are. Please."
"Daniel, I can't. That's the whole point of running away."
"I..but...are you safe?"
"Yes, I'm safe. Don't worry about me."
"Don't worry about you? Are you fricken kidding me? Of course I'm worried about you. I..I just want you home."
I could here his voice starting to crack and I could tell he was at his breaking point.
"I'm fine, Daniel, please don't worry. I'll be home in a few days, I just need to get away for a little."
"No...no, please. Please, I need you to come home. I'm sorry I haven't been able to help you, but just come home and whatever you need, I'll provide. I know you're struggling, but I'm here for you. Just please...come home."
By now he was crying and I could feel my heart cracking in half. I knew running away would be hard because of Daniel, but I needed to stay strong. Alone time is what I really needed, even if I was hurting Daniel.
"Please come home," he cried.
That did it.
I needed to get home.

I stepped out of the Uber and my front door instantly swung open, Daniel falling out.
He ran straight through my moms flower bed and through my front yard, to me. He grabbed me and held me tighter than he ever had before, burying his face in my shoulder. I hugged him back, just as tight, taking in his scent.
He pulled back, his face changing from relieved to angry.
"What the hell is wrong with you? You scared the shit out of me, I was so worried about you! I thought something terrible had happened to you! It's Christmas, why would you leave me?" he yelled, still holding onto my hands as tight as he could.
Daniel never yells at me, ever. But when he does yell, it's scary. I started to cry, overwhelmed by the whole situation.
He sighed, pulling me back into his arms.
"Shh, don't cry. Don't cry, it's okay. I'm sorry for yelling, I'm just upset."
I held onto him like he was the only thing keeping me alive. I looked to the left to see my mom storming through the yard, towards me.
I buried my head in Daniel's chest, trying to avoid facing her.
"Look at me!" she yelled.
I didn't budge.
"Look at me right now! I don't know who the hell you think you are, but this is outrageous! Why would you do this! I know I raised you better than this!" She screamed.
She yelled so loud, all the neighbors probably heard. I kept my head buried in Daniel's chest, the sound of his heart beating keeping me calm.
"Can we have a moment alone?" I heard Daniel ask. He kept one hand rubbing circles on my back and the other one on the back of my head.
My mom let out an annoyed breath before going back inside, leaving Daniel and I alone.
I looked up at him and he kissed me softly, trying his best to calm me down.
"I need you to remember this one thing. No matter what goes down, I am right by your side throughout all of it. You'll never be alone," he said, our foreheads pressed together.
I smiled, knowing he meant it. He always means what he says. He never breaks promises.
