Sometimes we get lucky and find souls that groove with ours. There are friends, there is family, and then there are friends that become family. I, for one, was lucky to find six that go by the names of Kelsey, Skylar, Levi, Liam, Theo and Spencer. Nothing in this world could ever make me give them up. And nothing in this world could ever replace them.
My meeting with them after that dreadful interview had only been one of the many times that further proved that.
~Flashback Continued~
"For what it's worth," Theo tells me as takes the opportunity to place his head on my lap, while the rest of the present gang cuddles up beside me in bed, "this is your second time this week looking hot on camera." A chuckle escapes my lips, just like everyone else's in the room. And although two of our members are currently on the other side of the world, and in a completely different time zone, I know they'd too be chuckling if they were here.
"Thanks, Curly."
"Don't mention it," he responds, making himself even cozier as he throws the covers over all of us.
It's nice when you've been able to surround yourself with people who, with just one look at you, can tell that you're not okay. They don't ask you to explain, they don't demand to know any of the details, they're just there for you as is, enjoying the silence with you until you're ready to face on life again. That's what the gang is to me, what it's always been, and what it will always be. And for that, I couldn't be more grateful.
"My favorite part was when you challenged her about slut shaming," Levi then says, the others nodding in agreement. "That shut her right up."
"It's her fault for saying anything in the first place," Skylar follows. "Like Liam said over FaceTime, she's someone who's been doing interviews for years now. She knew better than to comment something like that, never mind if it came out the 'wrong way.'"
"Precisely," Levi comments. "Screw the bitch," he then says, and although the way he says it makes me want to chuckle again, I bite back the urge this time.
"I wouldn't go as far as saying that she's a bitch," I reason, "but-"
"She's a bitch," he restates, his firm tone leaving no room for further discussion. I can't help but join in on the chuckles that then erupt at the sight of Levi's determination, my smile only growing when he then nudges Theo over just enough to rest his head on my lap as well.
I proceed to stroke both their hairs, smiling when the two men yawn while struggling to keep their eyes opened. I can't really blame them, though, having been informed that the weekly wedding itinerary has turned out to be quite the workout.
"You guys should get going," I finally let my people know. "I'm sure tomorrow's schedule will be even busier than today's was, and the last thing you need is me keeping you guys awake for no reason."
"No," Theo immediately retorts, now fully awake. Meanwhile, Levi's long gone, smiling at whatever it is that he's currently dreaming of. "We may be guests by association but fuck that shit. We're not going anywhere-" another yawn "-until you're feeling better."
Smiling at my loyal friend as he yawns yet again, I shake my head before planting a kiss on his warm cheek.
"Thanks to you guys," I let them know, "I've never felt better." I then nod over to the door. "Now, go. Seriously," I chuckle. "You all look like you're about to die from the plague before getting resurrected as zombies."
After about five minutes of assuring -and reassuring- my crazy lunatics that I honestly am in a much better mood after having spent some quality time with them in my suite for the past two hours, they finally agree to go back to their designated rooms. Joining them in one massive group hug, I thank them once more for always being there and for always understanding everything...my reason for keeping some things to myself being one of them.
