I never believed people when they would say that when a hearts break, it doesn't break even. I had first experienced heartbreak at a very young age, I'll admit, but it's nothing compared to having your heart broken when you're older, when you're supposed to be much more mature and aware.

It wasn't until it was me lying on the bathroom floor with mascara running down my face, gasping for air and bawling my eyes, that I truly believed all those heartbroken people before me.

And do you want to hear the worst part?

It turned out that it hadn't been Ace who broke my heart, but rather me, myself and I all along.

My lack of awareness. My lack of understanding. And most importantly, my lack of trust.

~My Final Day in Hayman Island~

I had met up with Justin like planned and enjoyed every second of him recalling his date with Ariel, the girl he'd fought hard for during the laser tag competition. Once that pleasant part of my day had come to an end, however, everything had gone downhill from there.

        Why, you ask?

'Cause I'm a fucking idiot, that's why. A fucking idiot who soon learned that she never deserved a man like Ace Rivers to begin with.

"So, this is it then, huh?" Beth asks me as I pack the last of my things. "The book's almost done, so you're out of here."

"That's why you dragged me here, didn't you?" I question with a smirk, despite feeling a small hole starting to form in my chest. It's only now truly hit me that after tomorrow, Ace will be starting a new life with the same woman that he had cheated on me with me.

And yet, my heart still seems to burn with desire for him more than anything else. Sure, there's still anger and pain there as well, but sadly, we can't choose we fall in love with.

"Right," Beth comments with a smirk of his own. "Guess my idea worked, after all."

"We'll see about that," I respond, gathering my passport and phone to place them inside my backpack. "I still have an entire chapter left to finish."

"Eh," Beth dismisses my statement with a wave of a hand, "with all the shit you've faced this week, I have no doubt that you'll be leaving Hayman Island feeling truly inspired. I can now confidently say that we'll be publishing another extraordinary book by the end of this month."

"Fingers crossed," I say, actually crossing my fingers for good luck. The sooner this book is out, the sooner I can move on to other projects, finally closing the Ace Rivers chapter of my life.

"Alright then," Beth speaks up once I've made sure that I haven't left anything behind. "Your flight leaves in a little over three hours, giving you plenty of time to say your goodbyes."

"That's sweet of you," I smile at him, "but that's already been taken care of. I met up with the gang this morning, knowing that they'd be extremely busy today with the wedding rehearsal being this evening and all."

"I wasn't talking about the gang," he tells me, and I look up from my backpack to meet his eyes. Then my own widen when I realize what -more like who- he's actually alluding to.

"Yeah, that ain't happening," I immediately shut down the idea, but judging by the look on his face, Beth isn't willing to give up just yet.

"Really, Lola?" He deadpans. "Not even one final goodbye hug?"
