Mission 1
Denis
-4 weeks later-
AFTER about a month of training, we decided we were taking a break since this "demon girl" hadn't struck yet, and Star had a little business to take care of.
"I still can't understand how y'all worked that." Star sighs, trying to wrap her head around the thing Alex and I had done.
"It's not our fault you gave us animal instincts as an addition to our powers." Alex whined.
"But my best clothes? Really?"
"Fine. I'm sorry for using your dresses as scratching posts." I said sarcastically.
It was a unusually hot Friday in Kelowna today, and Star was taking me and Alex shopping with her because we did some stuff to her clothes that I'd rather not mention.
"Gosh damnit I feel like y'all's babysitter sometimes." Star said, rolling her eyes.
"Yeah but you love us and see the value in us as people." Alex said, hugging Star.
We eventually passed an alley which Star marked as the halfway point to the mall we were going to. The girl stopped and walked back to it, and motioned for me and Alex to follow her. We looked at each other as if Star was crazy, but telepathically we mentioned if this would get us out of doing something Star could clearly do on her own, what's the harm in it?
"Somethin's happening here...I can feel it." Star said when we got to her. "Come on lets see what it's about."
"You know there's a police station about 4 blocks from here-" Alex said.
"Man but what's the fun in that! And you know what Blue Moon always says, 'As a hero, when someone is in need...'"
"We're not finishing it." I said.
Keep in mind we could've left whenever we wanted to, but if we did our heads would probably her collectable. For some reason Moon and Star are so violent when it gets to things they're passionate about, but I was told I'd meet different type of people in my life, and those two aren't the first.
"Put these on." Star said, handing us gas masks from her bag and getting to work on the manhole from which the "thing" was coming from.
"Why would we need these...?" I asked.
She undid the cover in silence and looked at us with a smile before climbing down the ladder. Alex and I followed and we met her with a huge creepy grin on her face.
About two seconds later Alex and I were hit with probably the worst stench of crap in probably the entire world. Star broke down laughing at the way we scrambled to put on the gas masks, which would've been funny to anyone watching, but the experience made me want to throw up. And to be honest I kinda did right before I put on the mask.
"Aight lets do dis quick and get outta here. We're all busy people." Star said.
The only source of light down here was moss covered bulbs, and even so they were flickering as if they were going to give out soon, which I was just praying wouldn't happen.
Alex was a step ahead of both of us and tried calling someone, but the expression on his face made me think this was some sort of trap.
"There's no signal at all." he said.
Suddenly he froze, and the wolf ears in his head started twitching.
"Alex you good?" Star asked.
"We have to get out of here," is all he muttered, and he started walking backwards.
As if on cue, an arrow shot right in front my face, and it could've been through my head if it weren't for Alex's fast reflexes.
Figures started to come from the darkness as the three of us stood back-to-back, getting ready for our first proper fight in about 6 months.
"I'm not ready..." I heard Alex constantly whisper.
"Don't worry, as long as we stick together, we should be fine." I said, followed by a sigh,"it's just like we practiced." I said.
Hopefully I'm right.
