Chapter Forty-Seven

Ever since that episode with Oliver, Kai has always tried to take Anneliese to work and pick her up. Sometimes it was difficult since he ended up getting the job at the mall store, and his schedules were not fixed and sometimes did not meet Anneliese's.

For him to be more relaxed he would ask Emma or Rhea to go get her. The blonde felt bad that she was giving so much work to her friends who were already working all day and still made a effort to go get her so she wouldn't be alone, but the truth is that on one hand she felt safe and preferred it that way. 

During the afternoon Kai had sent a message to Anneliese asking how she was doing and warning her that he would pick her up at work. The blonde would leave the work really later today, it was not fair to put Emma or Rhea also in the streets so late. She sighed in relief with his text. The upside of it all was that it was a quiet day, the downside was that it had gone very slowly.

Three minutes before Anneliese left work, Kai was already outside the hospital, leaning against the car waiting for her. The blonde got up from her chair and put on her coat while she folded her lab coat and put some papers in some boxes behind her desk. The cabinet door opened and quickly closed. 

"You didn't have to–" Anneliese says she thinks she's Kai until she turns around. The blonde swallows a dry one.  "Oliver." 

"Happy to see me?" He asks walking towards her. Anneliese stays quiet, she takes a step back. "Relax. I'm just here to help you."

"Help with what, exactly?" 

"You have something inside of you that shouldn't be there." Oliver says looking at the girl's belly. Anneliese tries to pass Oliver close to the closet to go to the door, but he grabs her by the arm and pulls her towards him.

"Don't do anything you might regret, Oliver." The blonde says, shivering as she feels his breath against her cheek.

"I only regret the things I didn't do." The redhead says by squeezing Anneliese's arm tighter and pulling her closer to him.

"Like what?"

"Finding you sooner." He whispers in her ear. Oliver takes his free hand to the girl's face and squeezes it making her look at him, he smiles sideways while shaking his head. "Your first mistake was when you thought you'd get rid of me when you went to the police. Your second mistake was thinking I was never going to cross your way again, that you were protected. And now I find you and you're pregnant?"

"How did you even find me?" The blonde asks with one eye closed due to him being so close to her. He shrugs. 

"I was at my cousins graduation when you graduated." Oliver reveals. "It wasn't hard to get informations about you from your colleagues."

"What cousins? And it's impossible, I didn't see you there and if I had I would–" The redhead squeezed Anneliese's arm even tighter, making her squeal a little groan of pain.

"Run away?" He asks. "I know, I made sure to keep a low profile."

Oliver places a little kiss on the girl's cheek and lets go of her arm. As soon as he lets her go, Anneliese looks at her arm and sees the red mark of his hand, the girl easily gets bruises; she rubs her arm and Oliver walks towards her, making her walk backwards until she hits the wall with her back. In one sudden movement, Anneliese feels Oliver's hand on her face. The girl stands still. 

The redhead went on. He started with slaps, until she slid over the wall until she sat down, legs to her chest, Anneliese hid her face in her knees while several tears flowed. She tried not to hiccup and make noise, she knew it would do worse. Eventually he kicked her and so on and so forth. The girl had a sore body, already with visible bruises and a bit of blood from a cut she made on her eyebrow when she went against the corner of the cupboard. Oliver approached Anneliese and crouched down next to her, he grabbed her by the hair on the back of her neck and raised her head. 

"Please, stop." Anneliese says in tears, in a tone almost inaudible. He shakes his head. 

"I'm just getting started."

In the street, Kai looked at his watch, a lot of time had passed and still no sign of Anneliese. He sent some messages and even called but no answer, he locked his car and kept the key in his coat pocket. He walks to the hospital balcony asking if any nurses saw Anneliese leaving but they all denied it. Strangely enough, Kai walks to the blonde's office where he hadn't even gotten to the door yet and heard a lot of noise. He quickly opens the door to Anneliese's office seeing the shrunken blonde sitting on the floor sobbing from so much crying and Oliver standing. 

"Stay away from her!" Kai walked towards Oliver, grabbing him by the collar and putting him against the wall.

"Aw, the boyfriend is here." He laughs and pushes Kai.

"Leave her or I swear to god." Kai took two steps back and got in front of Anneliese.

"Or what?" He asks by adjusting the collar of his shirt. "Do I look like I'm scared of you? Please."

"Maybe you should be." 

Kai with the clenched fist punches Oliver's jaw, Oliver looks down and starts laughing. The two continued until the noise went all the way down the hospital hallway which caught the nurses' attention; As the door was open, two nurses ran to the office watching the mess they were in. All of Anneliese's documents and files were on the floor, Kai and Oliver kept hitting each other while Anneliese was groaning in pain, one of the nurses entered the office trying to get to Anneliese to help her while the other ran to get a security guard. 

Quickly the one who had withdrawn returned with a security guard who quickly separated the two boys before Oliver had a chance to fight back the punch that Kai gave him. The security guard took them both out of the office ready to take them to the station but Anneliese intervened before being forced out by the nurse. The blonde was shaking and all she could say was, "Not Kai. He didn't do anything. Kai defended me. He did.' while pointing to Oliver. The security guard looked at the nurses who confirmed Kai was the doctor's boyfriend they usally saw him around, and the security guard let him go and left with Oliver. 

They took Anneliese to the emergency room, she was pregnant and had just been physically assaulted. They had to make sure everything was okay. Kai went back until they walked the girl into another room and stopped Kai from going, Kai revolted and kicked a trash can and sat on the chair with his hands in his hair; he shook his leg and called Emma.  

"Hey, what's up?"

"Emma, it's Liz." Kai starts. "I need you to come to the hospital."

"What– What happened?"  Emma asks worried questions.

"Her ex-boyfriend happened." 

"No, no, no. " Emma repeats. "Tell me he didn't."

"He did." Kai sighed deeply and pulled his hair slightly. Kai blamed himself for letting it happen.

"I'm on my way." 

Emma hung up the call and Kai kept the phone in his pocket. While the girl didn't arrive, Kai would get up every five minutes to ask about Anneliese but no one would give him an answer what was driving him crazy. He slams his hand on the counter and walks away, was going to sit down again when he sees Emma and Suho running up to him. 

"I'm sorry, I didn't know who to call." Kai says greeting Emma and then Suho. Emma shakes her head.

"You did well to call us." She says. "Have they told you anything yet?"

"No. They took her inside and didn't allow me to go with her." Kai sits in his chair, defeated. Emma puts her hands in her hair, and Suho sits next to Kai putting his hand on his shoulder.  

"Dear God, I'm gonna kill that man."

"I should've been there." Kai leans his back against the chair, shaking his leg. "I promised her he was not going to touch her again and I failed. I failed her." A tear in the corner of Kai's eye ends up running out and he quickly cleans it.

"You didn't know. There's no one to blame but him." Suho says, Kai looks at him. 

"He wanted her to lose the baby. If something happens, I don't know what I'm going to do."
