Chapter Fourteen

So the young couple went for a walk enjoying the night. Kai was all happy that he managed to get Anneliese to stay with him longer. Mentally thanking Suho, or Emma. Although thanking God she was sick was not exactly a good thing.

There are several street markets around the island, Anneliese had already gone to the Chaweng Night Market with Emma, which obliged Kai to improvise a bit. Although it was slightly further, Kai decided to take her to the Lamai Night Market. It was very crowded, had more options for food, souvenirs, and among other things, and was also more traditional than Chaweng himself.

The bars were pretty crowded. The night on the island was very diverse, there was always something interesting and fun to do. It was very lively and popular, music was very loud, and many people would stay there until the sun came up. Since they were in the Lamai beach area, the two of them sat at Beer Bars Plaza, which was one of the best known bars. A good option for the couple since they would only drink and talk.

It was a little past 11:40pm, and after running several places, laughing, drinking - not much, since Anneliese couldn't take it - snacking on some tents, they got back in Kai's car. He drove them to a place that Anneliese didn't recognize at first because it was dark, but then she realized. The secret beach. He parks the car where there was a spot, and they both make their way to the beach. The path was unstable, so Anneliese wouldn't get hurt, Kai grabbed her hand and walked in front of her. Her fingers eventually intertwined with Kai's, and they both realized it, but prayed that the other had not noticed.

When they saw the sea, they put their feet on the sand, letting go of their hands at the same time, looking away from opposite places. Embarrassed. Kai continued to walk and sat down in the sand, took off his coat and put it down beside him, open, so that Anneliese. who was wearing a dress. would sit on it so as not to fill herself with sand.

"This is beautiful day and night." Anneliese says sitting next to Kai and looking at the black sea that reflected only the moonlight. "How did you and Suho find this place?"

"Playing when we were kids." Kai answers. "We were adventuring around until we ran into this. Only you and Emma know about this place." He reveals but Anneliese didn't buy it.

"I'm sure you guys brought one girlfriend or another here." She giggles. Kai denied it by shaking his head.

"It may be hard to believe, but I haven't had many girlfriends and I never brought one here." He shrugged his shoulders and did not take his eyes off the sea, watching the movement of the small waves. Anneliese frowned.

"But you did have girlfriends. Why did you never bring them here?" Anneliese asks curious. Kai smiled and looked away, focusing on the girl.

"Because I'm a lame man." He chuckles. "This is a beautiful place that shouldn't be shown to a random person, and all the girlfriends I had were with me only for what I had."

"But you showed it to me and Emma when you barely knew us." She makes a point. Trying to understand their reasons. The man sighs.

"You're not from the island, you don't know us, you don't know our origins and reputations, and we felt we could trust you." Kai explains. "Besides, Suho already had his eye on Emma."

"Does it matter? Your origins and reputation?" 

"You know why I only work when I want to?" Kai asks rhetorically, taking a deep breath. Anneliese nods. "Because it's my dad's resort, Liz. The bar where Suho works? It's my dad's too. When you have a lot of money on an island like this, everyone knows you and wants to get close." Suddenly it all made sense in the blonde's head. 

"I thought it was odd but I never thought much into it..." She confesses "I didn't get closer to you because of that, I had no idea. I would never." She says. Feeling a need to explain or show that he coming from a wealthy family was not what made her get close to him. He laughed and smiled at the end.

"Did you see how you answered your own question? That's why I liked you and trusted you to bring you here with Emma." Kai says. She shakes her head and sighs deeply.

"I'm sorry Kai. Whoever was with you only for what you had, didn't know the amazing person that you are. I hope your next girlfriend treats you the way you deserve." Kai smiled and put his arm over the girl's shoulder, pulling her close. He gives her a little kiss on the forehead. 

"Thank you." He whispers.

They stayed on the beach till 2:00 in the morning until the tiredness came. The two of them left to the resort, where halfway through Kai had explained to Anneliese how he had left his parents' house and was now living in the resort to be closer to work. He also explained what his family was like. Chaos. It even made Anneliese laugh and sigh for relief when she noticed that it wasn't just hers that was dysfunctional sometimes; he also told how he had always helped Suho since he was a kid. And after the big explanation, it all made sense and the rest were just details.

Since Suho was going to sleep in her room with Emma who was sick, Anneliese was going to sleep in Kai's room. Suite 121. They were walking down the resort hallway to the room. That time was probably the only time the resort was so quiet. The young man swiped the card on the door and walked in front of Anneliese starting to pick up some sweaters and pants that were all over the room. She chuckle and put down her purse and Kai's coat she was carrying on her shoulders on the couch.

"You want something to wear? To make you more comfortable? Do you want me to get you something from your room?" Kai shoots Anneliese with several questions and she starts laughing.

"Just lend me a sweater and I'll be fine."
