Chapter Thirty-One

After school Emma went home, she came all the way thinking about how many things she had to study because the exams were almost there and the assignments she had to deliver on time. The girl entered the house and put her bag down on the floor by the entrance, taking off her coat, she peeps into the room where she sees her parents accompanied by Mason and Mason's parents.

"Hello, what's he doing here?" Emma greets the people present and points to Mason, who was head down and quiet.

"Honey, come here. We have something to discuss." Her mother answers while sitting on the arm of the chair with one arm over her husband's shoulders. Emma steps into the living room and crosses her arms.

"What is it?"

"We know what's going on with you and Mason." Her father answers as he looks at Mason's parents who remained silent next to their son.

"You know what?" Emma asks confused. The mother gets up close to her daughter by putting her hands on her shoulders.

"The blackmailing." Her mother says.

"Looks like things didn't go so well for you, Mason."

"We've talked with him. And we want to apologize for his actions. We're so truly sorry for the distress he caused you, Emma."

"As much as I want to accept the apology, I can't." Emma starts by saying. Both her parents and Mason's parents listened to the girl carefully. "He's made my life a living hell since we went back to college because he doesn't know how to assume the consequences of his actions and then blackmail me to the point where I had to go to the police for him to leave me alone. I appreciate you coming here but don't expect me to drop the charge or anything." The boy's parents shake their heads and get up.

"We're not here expecting you to drop charges, Emma." His father says. "We don't want you to do it, he deserves to take the consequences of what he did. We're here simply to apologize. The videos he filmed without your consent have been deleted as well, you won't have to worry about it ending online." The girl relaxes her shoulders, happy to hear that the videos had been erased and smiles.

"Thank you." Emma says and looks at Mason. "And I hope he learns and doesn't do that to anyone else."

"We hope so too. We're really sorry, to you and your family. We wish you the very best."

Emma's parents get up to say goodbye to Mason's parents and Mason opens the door of the house mad and goes to lock himself in the car waiting for his parents. Emma also ends up saying goodbye to the boy's parents and looks at her mother and father, nervous.

"Sorry I didn't tell you." She says looking at her parents who just shake their heads. Her mother opens her arms and approaches her wrapping her in a hug.

"If he bothers you again, don't hesitate in telling us. You know we'd be on your side." Her father says by putting his hand on the girl's shoulder. She nods.

"I was ashamed..." Emma replies looking at both of her parents. "I didn't know how I was gonna tell you something like this."

"Ashamed of what? There's nothing to be ashamed." The mother answers with a smile on her face as she runs her hand through the girl's hair and gives her a kiss on the forehead.

College was closed for a mini break. The girls were not together many times as they had all the exams to do at the end of January and the papers to deliver and make presentations.
