CHAPTER 1:
Emma's POV:
"Yesss! I got in!" I exclaimed. I couldn't believe it. I had always wanted to study in the University of Exeter. I run inside the house and tell my parents who are having breakfast at the table.
"I got selected for studying at the University of Exeter!" I said with a thousand watt smile on my face. My dad, Robert Lancaster, was reading the newspaper looked up and said "That's great Em, I am so happy for you." And my mom, Esme Lancaster, was cooking breakfast, said "I can't believe it! You've always wanted to go and you finally got in, that's amazing!"
"I know right! It's like a dream come true and I still can't believe it." I said with enthusiasm that I never had at 8 in the morning. And I realised that I will get late for work if I don't get going right now. With that thought in my mind I went in for a shower.
So let me tell you something about myself. I am Emma Grace Lancaster. I am 21 years old and getting ready for college. I am born on the 4th of August. I live in San Francisco. I have Blonde hair and blue eyes. I have an average height of 5"8'. And I am currently working at the coffee shop called 'sight glass'. Then my mother, who is 43 years old but doesn't look a day over 25. I got my blonde hair from her. She has hazel brown eyes and she is 5"4'. She likes cooking new cuisines for us every day but she also helps my dad with his business. Then there's my father, who is 45 years old and I got my pretty blue eyes from him. He is 5"10', really tall I know. My father is a businessman he owns a chain of restaurants in San Francisco called 'Olive Garden'. I have inherited my pretty features from both my parents.
I get out of the shower and get dressed for work, a black skater skirt with an olive green t-shirt. I decide to pair it with my new black flats. I get out of my closet and stand in front of my mirror and start combing my hair and decide to leave it open. I then put some moisturizer, pink lip balm and a little mascara. I am not a huge fan of makeup. I go down for breakfast, some pancakes with nutella. Nutella is my favourite, just like all the junk food. I grab the keys to my matte black, BMW M6, a gift from my parents for my 18th birthday and to complete school with flying colours.
I reach the coffee shop in ten minutes. I enter the café and a bell rings letting everyone know I arrived. I also absolutely loathe attention. I silently get in the back of the café and put on the white apron that says 'sight glass' in turquoise. I go outside and wait for customers to come. It's still in the morning and it's not that busy in the morning. The crowd starts coming in after 10 and goes on till 2. And then it's even more busy in the evenings. Usually I take two to three shifts in a day. I get paid pretty well so I don't mind.
You must be wondering why I work if my dad owns a chain of restaurants. It's because I wanted to keep myself busy during my holidays and earns some money myself. I don't take my parents and their money for granted. So, as I wait for customers to come, I chat with the other employees working, Dave, Scott, Leila, Ana and Luke. Ana is a very good friend of mine, she is with Luke, and they are a really great couple. I tell them about the university and they are all really excited for me.
We are still talking when we hear the bell in the café ring. And in walks the arch nemesis, Jeremy King.
"Jeremy king." I say. "Pleasure to meet you" with the most malicious smile ever. "Emma Lancaster" he says. "Pleasure's all mine" he replies, killing me with his looks.
He comes to the café quite often with his friends, Chase and Justin. He has hated me since first grade when I broke his hand with a bat. He said some pretty evil things about me and so we have hated each other ever since.
Coming back to reality, "what can I help you with today, sir?" I asked him. "Our usual orders, to go" he replied. "It will be eight dollars and fifty cents, you can have a seat at the table" I said. He throws a ten dollar bill on the counter and waits at the table. All the three of them are sitting at the table, snickering within themselves like kids. Leila prepares their drinks and serves them at the table. He gives me a look while going out the door and I throw him my famous smile, which I think pisses him off.
Leila asks why I hate him so much; he is so hot after all. That is true though. He has been the football captain for almost two years now; he is 5"10 with a very fit but lean body. He has brown soft hair, I would love to put my hands in his hair, and those striking green eyes kill me every time. I have had a crush on him for very long but nobody knows about it. It started when he started going out with my, then bestfriend, Cassandra. But it's sad that I will never see him again because of me going to college and me not knowing what his plans are.
I don't see him again. Just like that my shift is over. I hand over my resignation letter to the owner, Mr Davis. He is the sweetest man on earth. He is as old as my father and treats me like his own as his kids don't live with him anymore. I help him out a lot. He is also good friends with my father. He says he will miss me but I assure him saying that I will be back really soon and he won't even know. I will miss working at the cafe. I reach home just in time for lunch.
I spend most of my following days knowing more about the university, doing shifts at the café for the pending two weeks, learning how to cook, and many other things. It feels weird to think that I won't be living here by the next month. But at the same time it feels exciting too. I can't wait to start university.
