CHAPTER 40:

Emma's POV:

Next when I wake up, my head is hurting like a bitch. I remember going out with the girls but not a lot. I open my eyes and everything is way to bright. I cover my eyes with the back of my hand.

When my eyes get used to the light, I look around. It is a hospital room. There are bandages wrapped around my head and there is a machine that is constantly beeping. There's nothing more, I think. Frankly, it's annoying the hell out of me. On the other side, I see.. Jeremy? What is he doing here? He is asleep on the couch in a very weird position.

Just then, a nurse walks in. She looks a little old but very pretty.

"Hey honey, I hope you're feeling okay" she says and writes down something in her folder.

"Yes ,thank you. How long have I been out for?" I ask her.

"Not long. Maybe four or five hours. Should I wake him up?" She asks and gestures towards Jeremy.

"No.. let him be. He must be tired" I tell her and look at him again.

"Okay. I'll let you rest now. Ring the bell of you need any help" she says and leaves the room. As she shuts the door, Jeremy wakes up. I keep looking at him.

He sits straighter and rests his head on the couch. He groans a little, maybe in pain. He hasn't noticed that I am awake as of now. He keeps his eyes shut but moves a lot on the couch. Genuinely speaking, the couch looks very uncomfortable to me.

"You can squeeze in with me" I speak, for the first time in what feels like so many days. He opens his eyes and looks at me. For a second, he doesn't say anything. But then he goes back to moving around on the couch.

I realise that he is still ignoring me. It upsets me but there is still nothing I can do about it. I wish he would tell me what went wrong, what mistake did I make.

"You know, ignoring me isn't going to be helpful to either of us?" I try talking to him but this time he doesn't even look at me. He finally finds a comfortable position and tries falling asleep.

I can't fall asleep. It's been fifteen minutes and I have been staring at Jeremy and the bare walls. I look at my phone on the couch. I look at him peacefully sleeping, so I decide not to disturb him. I can go grab it, can't I?

So, I remove the blanket and swing my legs. The minute I do that, I feel pain running through my right leg. I realise that I must have sprained my ankle or something. It also hurts like a bitch. The pain is making me cuss so much.

I try walking slowly towards my phone without making any noise. It's proving to be a very difficult task. I am almost there so I reach out to grab my phone. But before my hand reaches the phone, Jeremy's hand catches mine.

I look at him and his eyes are still shut.

"What are you doing?" He asks with his eyes still shut, which is starting to creep me out now.

"I was really bored, you weren't talking so I needed my phone" I say with a little attitude. At my words, he looks at me. He stands up so even I do the same. He grabs my phone and I look at him in confusion.

He guides me back to the hospital bed and gives me my phone.

"Call me if you need anything. Don't do it on your own" he says and sits back on the couch. This is my only chance to make conversation, by fighting.
