CHAPTER 7:

Emma's POV:

'Zizzi' is a very comfortable restaurant. It has glass ceilings so it has a pretty view in the evenings and at night. As we settle in, I think about how I have never had any meal of the day in front of the sky. I am so mesmerized and I would salute the owner of the restaurant to come up with something innovative.

I end up sitting in between Isabella and Isaac. I always think that they would look so cute together. Turns out, Bella likes him too but she doesn’t want to ruin the friendship they have. I kinda feel like a third wheel. Everybody orders what they want. I order some sushi for myself. Till the food comes, we talked about the most random things when Jules brings up something I don’t want to talk of but will have to. Leave it to Jules to make things awkward.

“So, we never found out how Jeremy and Emma know and hate each other.” She says. Everybody wants to know what happened. So before Jeremy starts saying anything, I start telling them.

“Actually, we know each other from school. And we have hated each other as long as I can remember…” I say when Veronica speaks in the middle.

“We already know that Emma, tell us why.” She says before I can say anything Jeremy stops me.

“Whatever that is nobody is ever going to know because she won’t tell anybody” he says and gives me a look that shuts me up. I wonder why he doesn’t want anybody to know, but then again, it is a little embarrassing to get hit by a five or six year old. I make an action of zipping my mouth with an invisible zip and throw the key in the air. I look at him with question mark on face and he gives me a tight lipped smile.

Just then our food arrives. Everybody devours the food in minutes. We order the desserts. I order a chocolate truffle for me and let me tell you, it tastes amazing. One look at it and my mouth already starts watering. Jeremy goes to pay for the food when everybody says, including me, that we divide the cheque.  Everybody pays their part and we leave. Sean and Jules had left before the dessert as they had to do something. Veronica, Isabella and Isaac go in the cab as they live close by. Jeremy and I go together as he lives somewhere near my apartment. We drive silently for the first five minutes but then I cannot keep my mouth shut so I ask him the first thing that comes to my mind.

“A little birdy told me that you like me” I say then I suddenly realise how desperate and crazy that sound. As I turn around to add something and his face looks dumbfounded.

“I was just kidding, so tell me why you didn’t want them to know why we hate each other.” I ask him.

“It’s just something I do not want people to know so I hope you don’t tell anyone too, thanks.” He says.

“I don’t know what is wrong with them knowing. I hit you in the first grade and we have been at each other’s throats since then.” I say.

“You think that is why I hate you? That is not the reason why I hate you. So what, you hit me, big deal. You don’t remember what happened in third grade?” he asks me.

“No, I don’t know what you are talking about. What happened in third grade?” I ask him, out of curiosity. Then out of nowhere, he turns the volume up and doesn’t say anything. I wonder what the hell is wrong with him. I sit back in my seat and look outside the window the whole ride. Great, Now jerk Jeremy is back. I prefer the caring Jeremy over this one anyday. As he stops the car, I realise that we reached. I get out of the car and starts walking towards my apartment building, without even thanking him. He starts calling me but I pretend like I don’t hear him at all and I keep walking.

Suddenly, he grabs me by the elbow roughly and turns me around.

“What?!” I shout at him.

“Are you crazy? This late in the night and you want to walk alone. I will walk you to your apartment. Let me park the car first.” He says, surprisingly calm.

I want to argue more but I don’t say anything as I feel tired. He parks his car right next to the building I live. I don’t think too much about it. He walks me to my apartment. We linger around in the hallway, but then after a few awkward seconds he says goodbye and walks away.
I close the door and stand facing the apartment and close my eyes. After a minute or so, I take a deep breath and open my eyes. As soon as I open my eyes, I start screaming. I open the door to get out of the apartment and see Jeremy standing there with wide eyes. He rushes in and asks me what happened. I point at what I saw.
He looks where I point and he starts laughing.
