CHAPTER 8:
Emma's POV:
Jeremy is laughing so much that he has tears in his eyes. I can’t do anything other than stand there embarrassingly.
You must be confused, let me catch you up. I screamed because there was a cockroach in the apartment. So Jeremy came in and threw it out but then he couldn’t stop laughing.
“Ha Ha Ha, it is so funny.” I say sarcastically.
“It is hilarious. I didn’t pen you down to be scared of roaches. They are so fucking small compared to you.” He says after his laughter cools down. He still has a smile on his face. His smile is so fucking sexy. I wish I could taste his lips on me. Ugh… I shake myself out of the dirty thoughts and get back to the situation at hand.
“I am scared, sue me. Now will you please leave? I have a really long day tomorrow.” I say, very politely. We say our pleasantries and he leaves.
--------- NEXT DAY -----------
I wake up and brush my teeth. I remind myself that I still have to look for a job. I decide to go after my third lecture today. I get ready for the lectures. I decide to wear a black pair of jeans paired with a pale pink t-shirt with a heart drawn on the side. I pair it with a pair of plain white slippers. I take the bag and put the required books in it. I grab the car keys and go downstairs. As soon as I reach the car, I realise someone has punctured it purposely.
I look at my watch and realise that I will have to skip breakfast to reach class in time. So I plug my earplugs and start walking towards the Uni. I am startled when someone honks at me. I look around and realised that the person honked at me. I stomp towards the car ready to give the person a piece of my mind, when he rolls down the window. I recognize the guy from my first lecture.
“You wanna hitch a ride?” he asks me with a dazzling smile. I couldn’t say no to that smile, and the British accent. So I get in the car and thank him.
“Thank you so much! ” I say gratefully.
“No problem at all. But don’t you have a car?” he asks me.
“Yes I do. But someone must have punctured it and I was getting late so I started walking. By the way, could you drop me at the café nearby, I want to grab something to eat” I ask him, hoping he wouldn’t mind.
“Of course, we can go together if you won’t mind. I haven’t had breakfast too.” He says. I smile in return and nod my head.
He parks his car and we sit in the corner in the café. We give our orders and wait for the food to arrive.
“I forgot to ask you, what’s your name?” I ask him sheepishly.
“Seriously? Do you always hitch rides with strangers?” he asks me and raises his eyebrow questioningly. But he still has a smile on his face.
“No, I don’t do that. But I recognized you from one of my lectures so…” I say with a smile.
“Okay! My name is Carter.” he says. Just then my group of friends walk in. I ask Carter if it’s okay to invite them over and he says he doesn’t have a problem. I call them over and everybody settles in after they give their orders. Everybody is chit chatting but I see Jeremy glaring daggers at me.
Just then everybody’s breakfast arrives. I grab my coffee and get ready to leave. I make an excuse of meeting a teacher and leave the café. I don’t want Jeremy to ruin my day. I reach early to my first lecture. So I go through my instagram and see that I have a request from Carter. Slowly, a smile spreads across my face and I accept his request.
I am pulled out of my thoughts when Jeremy sits beside me.
“What’s your problem?” I ask him, a little rudely.
“What do you mean?” he tries and acts innocent. I realise that he won’t answer so I drop it.
“Wait! Hold up! You are not in this class?” I ask him, a little confused.
“Yes! I am,” he says very confidently. I narrow my eyes and challenge him.
“What? I am. I just wasn’t there for the first lecture as I got late.” He says.
“Of course” I say sarcastically. I have the worst luck ever. Jeremy is with me in each and every lecture. I know that I won’t be able to concentrate in any lecture and now I am so going to fail this semester.
After the lecture ends, I collect my books and leave for my next lecture. As I walk towards my next class, Jules comes beside.
“You like Jeremy, don’t you?” it’s more like a statement than a question. It gets me to think that why do I really like that asshole. He has never been nice to me and the biggest thing of all is that he would never liked me back.
“No! I can’t like that asshole. He always treats me like trash, you should’ve seen him in school.” I say, pathetically lying.
“Keep telling yourself that. but I saw you in the theatre that day. You should see the way he looks at you.” She says. Before I can ask her what she means, she goes straight inside the class and sits beside Isaac. I go take an empty seat in the back.
The bell rings. I don’t even realise when all my lectures get over. I get ready to go back to my apartment just to rest. While leaving, Jules reminds me of our plans for tomorrow night. I say that I will definitely be there. We will celebrate our first week at the Uni. as I get ready for bed, I realise that I forgot to look for a job. I make a mental note of finding one by next week.
I go to sleep that night very excited but nervous for tomorrow. Nobody knows but it will be my first time at a bar.
“AAAHHH” I scream. I get up in the middle of the night. I look around in panic. I realise that I am sweating. I get up and wash my face. I look at the time on the clock on the table besides the bed it is three in the morning. This time, I remember the dream. It’s the same dream I had when I was 10 years old. It has been years since that dream haunted me. I am so scared but I have nowhere to go, nobody to call. I take two sleeping pills and go to sleep. Tomorrow is a big day for me and I want to enjoy it to the fullest.
