Wisps of white smoke expelled from Hawks' mouth as he stood perched on top of the roof of a building. It was one day past Christmas but to Hawks, it felt as if the holiday had never arrived.

His keen eyes observed your walking figure from afar, and with every small step took his heart both melted and froze over. He knew he couldn't talk to you like this, he would never want to put you in a situation where you would get hurt. No, he would gladly die before ever getting you entangled with the mess that he had put himself into.

However, by doing this, it meant that months ago he had left you crying on the balcony of your apartment. Months ago tears rolled heavily down his cheeks as he broke things off with you.

Christmas had been both of your favorite holidays to celebrate together.

The ugly Christmas sweaters, the hot chocolate with enough marshmallows to clog your arteries, and of course the gigantic tree the two of you would buy together and horribly decorate.

Hawks was still completely in love with you and to see you looking so uncomfortable and alone made his heart hurt. It was his fault that you looked like this, but there wasn't much reason for him to get you back. Not when you were in danger because of him.

His eyes narrowed as he tried to look past the white flakes as you entered your apartment.

Despite the way the cold weather tore into his skin, Hawks fell to his butt, waiting to see you emerge into your apartment before he would fly away.

You lived on the sixth floor and so it took about five minutes until he saw the apartment lights turn on.

Then he saw you much more clearly than how he saw you on the streets.

You were beautiful in your warm getup, your face unreadable as you slipped off your shoes and hang your coat. Hawks was mesmerized by the way you stretched your arms above your head, the way your lips always quirked into a small smile as you walked into the apartment. His eyes locked on your bouncing hair as you walked, and the way your eyes shined as you stared at your kettle.

Hawks knew your favorite hot drink like the back of his hand, hot chocolate with a piece of peppermint bark. He never thought he was one for that drink, but the first time you made him try it, he was hooked. He remembers you joking about how your quirk was making the best hot chocolate in the world, and like an idiot, he had believed you despite knowing your actual quirk.

His own lips spread into a grin as you made exactly that, and there was a small warmth that overcame him as you walked with your hot drink in your hand to the window.

His eyes focused on the curve of your nose, the swell of your lips, and how your face glowed in the streetlights. Your eyes searching the skyline to his left, and Hawks wanted nothing more than to swoop by the window and scare you.

He wanted to hear your shriek of surprise as then he would walk into your home as you always left your balcony unlocked for him. He wanted to have you hit him with anything nearby as he struggled to take off his boots, your words shrilly as you scolded him for scaring you and for dirtying your floor. He wanted to hold your cheeks in his hand as he pressed the softest kiss to your mouth and feel as you immediately caved to his touch.
