A/N: this got really long super unintentionally. also sorry it's late, I had to work last night

- so you two first meet before your quirks manifest, and you two get along. totally typical children become friends scenario

- "Why are your eyes two different colors?"

- "I don't know..."

- "I wish I had two different eye colors! can you ask your parents how you have two so I can be like you?"

- "...okay?"

- "Okay, but are you a secret old man, because only my grandparents have white hair. Or are you like half old!?"

- "no! I'm not old!"

- you'd reach over and poke his eyes harder then you intended, and pull on his white hair through pure curiosity causing him to smack your hands away

- "do you wanna be my friend?" he would ask shyly after you profusely apologized for making him cry a lot a little bit

- "OF COURSE!"

- when shotos quirk manifests, it occurs at school, but the thing is in his panic he manages to burn and freeze you when you try to soothe him

- he cries for sure

- you're in pain but you convince him you're alright

- he stops showing up to school regularly after his quirk appeared

- he missed your quirk manifestation

- the next time you see him, he's sad. so so sad.

- you're concerned so you ask why

- he shrugs it off

- your guys' favorite game to play together was playing heroes All Might roleplay was the best, but soon he starts crying whenever he pretended to be a hero

- "what's wrong todoroki-chan?" you'd ask scared for you friend

- "I don't want to be a hero" he whispered, his eyes looking at you terrified "I don't want to be a hero" he would repeat constantly

- you would blink unsure of how to handle this situation, you were only five. so you embrace him tightly, head on top of his and whispered: "but you're my hero."

- he hugs you back

- pre-scar childhood is basically lots of hugs, curious questions, high stakes imaginative adventures, and secrets

- then the burn happens

- he appears at school once.

- bindings over his face, you race over to him scared for him

- "Are you okay?!" you asked trying to take a peek from under his bandages but he slaps your hand away and you can feel the pain, anger, frustration, and hatred radiating off his small body.

- he stops showing up one day

- with permission from your parents, you go knocking on his front door days later.

- an older woman answers it and three older kids and teens are peering from behind her "yes?" she answers

- you explain who you are, a bag of shotos favorite snacks clutched in your hands. they look at you crushed. someone explains that shoto can't come out, but that they promise they'll get your bag to him.
