*Shennika’s POV*

Kelli led us through annoying crowds and busy roads until we finally turned off down a slope into an alleyway which greeted us with darkness. I’ll admit I was glad to be out and away from all that body power- it was like trying to swim left when the current has already decided to channel right.

Our pace was kept up as we walked under another moth fascinated lamppost before Kelli suddenly came to a halt seeing the end of the alleyway within eyeshot.

“Why’d you stop?” Ryland asked irritated by yet another disruption that prevented him from reaching his brother sooner. Kelli turned to us and hesitated.

“What’s the matter now?” Riker rubbed his forehead looking at her, the lamp bringing to light the bags he now had under his eyes.

“It’s just...this gang, they’re not the easiest to...” Kelli mumbled nervously and breathed out, “I can’t go back there, they’ll see me!”

“What!?” Rydel’s attention was fully brought forth, “you can’t be serious!”

“That’s it!” Ryland shouted in frustration, “We don’t need you!” leaving our group he charged his way down the path, disappearing as he entered the blackness of the alleyway exit.

There’s was a silence with us as we watched Ryland leave. “Did you hear that?” Riker narrowed his eyes; he then began walking in direction for the exit. There was a slight sound of shouting that was coming from the place Ryland had gone.

We quickly followed after Riker leaving Kelli behind. There was definitely shouting that trumpeted in our eardrums as we went from moving to speed walking to running in a matter of seconds. This could be Ross we were hearing shouting! Were we too late? Please don’t let us be too late.

“ROSS!” the familiarity of Ryland’s voice had us running faster. In a heartbeat we bolted around the wall and out onto the field which was completely blackened by night- the lamps in the distance weren’t bright enough to fully identify who the figures wrestling wildly in front of us were.

“Ryland!” Shanell shouted in panic, “Where are you? Get away from them! You’ll get hurt!”

“Hey I’m alright” he came from behind her slightly couching over from being hit in the rib. His brothers Riker and Rocky rushed over to check him over, “I’m alright guys,” he brushed them off; “I tried to help Ross.”

Riker bit his lip hurriedly observing as much as he could of the scene, “doesn’t matter- now come on! We’ve got to help Ross.”

Without waiting for him to finish we had already ran towards the scuffle and searched in the midst for Ross.

Looking in and around the space I called and called and got elbowed a few times before a yell was heard- some ginger haired girl came at me and jumped me to the floor. I hit my head on the ground and a feeling of dizziness aroused in loops in my mind; I looked around in circles before finally my sight came clear again.

“This is for interfering!” on top of me the girl slapped me across the face. I was too in shock, mind so busy with worry over Ross that I hardly took the hit as a wakeup call- in fact I wasn’t entirely sure what was happening. Shanell appeared out of no way and kicked her off me.

“You ok Shennika?” she said pulling me up to my feet. I nodded distractedly, “yeah I think so- look I think I see him!”

Gasp. “Ross!” We yelled, throat achingly in unison over the loud thundering of our own heartbeats versus the wrestling guys that were still at war.

Then it happened.

In a deaf manner the world went silent when a sharp glinting object was held high above all. They particularly bowed to it. Eyes wide and unblinking with jaws clamped tight. They halted to its power, its precarious ability to silence even the most seemingly fearless fouls.
