Hyejin sat on the sofa of her brother's apartment, her hands shaking as she held the cup of cocoa in her hands. Sure, it may have once been appealing to her and she'd devour it in a few mere gulps. But now, she couldn't bring herself to drink something sweet. The thought of it made her sick. She didn't have it in her to drink something that would warm her hear. And at the moment, her mind and soul were occupied at the thought of her little Keegan alone, crying because he didn't know where he was.
The thought only brought further heartache to Hyejin. It had been a week since she'd last seen her baby. And despite all their efforts, putting up posters, buying billboards, appearing on the news, advertising rewards for any that could find her son, hiring detectives, everything. And yet, nothing. There was no sign of him and Hyejin was getting desperate.
Many have told her that he would be dead by now. But she refused to believe that her baby was dead. She refused to even acknowledge the thought. But with everything leading to a dead end, she wasn't sure what to make of the situation. But even she, herself, knew there was the possibility that Keegan... her sweet little Keegan was gone.
She was losing herself, she could feel it. Keegan had been the only thing keeping her sane all these years and he wasn't there. He wasn't there to keep her afloat. He wasn't there to keep her from sinking. From drowning.
She felt a blanket being placed over shoulders. It was winter and the temperature would only continue to drop. The blanket, of course did nothing to warm her. Instead, it made her worry. Did he have a blanket? Was he freezing? Was he warm and had food to eat?
Her lips quivered, her vision blurring as tears pooled in her eyes. She watched as her hands trembled and the contents of the cup that threatened to pour itself onto her. So, she was ever so grateful when hands came and brought the cup away from her, settling it on the coffee table.
Averting her eyes from her spot on the brick wall - the spot she'd come to stare at for the past week - she looked up at him. He was the reason she was suffering all this heartache. If he hadn't come to visit them that day... If he hadn't made her fall in love with him... yet, she knew, if she hadn't met him, she would never have had her bundle of joy these past few years. She never would have gotten to experience the simply joys of life someone could give you.
Looking at the man that had stolen her heart, she smiled softly. It, however, didn't reach her eyes and it only brought more grief, it brought more pain. Because seeing him, made her remember their similar features. His eyes, his lips, his hair, his personality...
So, she let herself melt into his embrace. She rested her head against his chest, listening to the melodic thumping of his heartbeat, bringing back the memories of their happiness 3 years ago. She snuggled further into his embrace, inhaling his scent. Smiling painfully through the tears of sadness.
"We'll get him back, love." He mumbled, rubbing soothing circles on her back while planting soft kisses on the crown of her head.
"I promise. I'll do everything. Even if it means using up every single cent I have, I'll find him. We'll find him."
Hyejin nodded softly, afraid that if she dared to speak, her voice would betray her.
Letting her eyes roam to the frost covered windows, she looked up into Wonwoo's eyes.
"What if he's cold? What if he's looking for us..."
"Hey, hey, hey. Shh... he'll be fine, Keegan is a strong little boy, right?" Wonwoo asked softly, adjusting Hyejin in his arms to make her more comfortable. Hyejin nodded again, her eyes looking into his lovingly.
Wonwoo smiled, using his other hand to move the stray strands of hair from her face, smiling down at her lovingly.
"Sleep, my love. You need to sleep. We won't be able to find him if you're tired." Wonwoo mumbled softly, gently running his hands through her hair.
Hyejin nodded, allowing the heaviness that lingered on her eyes to take over. And soon enough, she felt herself slipping away from reality and into a world of pure imagination. A world that only brought about the heart's desires, the world full of lies. A world that people could only hope to be reality.
Wonwoo sighed, carrying her into the guest room. Sitting beside her on the bed, he gently pushed the strands of hair that had plastered itself onto her face. She was burning up. Though, that was pretty much a given.
She'd been neglecting her health for the past week, refusing to eat anything and refusing to sleep. And when she did, she'd be awoken with nightmares of Keegan. So Wonwoo knew that it wouldn't be too long before she was awoken. Much like the other times.
"She's finally slept, huh?" Seungcheol asked from the doorway, his hair tousled atop his head. Everyone was restless. Everyone had been putting in their efforts into finding Keegan.
"What'd Joshua say?" Wonwoo asked, his eyes not moving from the sleeping figure of a distressed mother. But when Seungcheol remained silent, despite knowing the answer, he looked at the older man who sorrowfully shook his head.
Wonwoo took inhaled deeply, turning his head away from the man at the doorway. He knew the answer, yet he'd hoped that the silence was the disbelief that they'd found Keegan. But of course, it was asking for the impossible at the moment. There wasn't a trace of their son anywhere. It was like he was just a dream that had become a reality for them.
"Oh..." he said softly.
"What about-"
"The others haven't heard news either." Seungcheol sighed, running his hands through his hair irritably.
Wonwoo nodded, weakly, clenching his fists tightly. He frowned, glaring at the bed. His shoulders shook slightly, his lips trembling as tears poured from his eyes and sobs from all the emotion he'd hidden escaped his lips.
Facing Hyejin who still seemed distressed in her sleep, he took her hands in his, placing kisses on her knuckes as the warm tears continued to pour out.
"I'm so sorry that I couldn't protect you then and now. I'm sorry for having caused you so much pain. Now, I've even caused you the pain of losing our child. I'm sorry for having been a horrible boyfriend and father, for not trying hard enough to be with you and Keegan all these years. I'm sorry for the trouble, but I will find him and I can't promise that I'll keep the both of you safe. But I will try with every fibre of my being. When we find him, I'll do everything it takes for us to be happy." He whispered, squeezing her hands gently before standing up and grabbing his coat from behind the door.
"I will find him." He mumbled, wiping his tears before he left the house, eyes determined and lethal. There was no way he'd allow anyone to harm his family whether true relations or not. If any harm were to come to his family, especially his son, he was determined to bring hell upon them. He was ready to kill and that's what he was going to do.
"I'll find you and I will kill you." He growled as he stepped out into the cold.
"I'm coming for you."
