𝗦𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗔'𝗦 𝗣𝗢𝗩

Shawn just hanged up. He called me because he wasn't feeling good. He calls 𝘮𝘦 when he doesn't feel good. He makes me feel... wanted.... needed. It feels good. I know it's selfish to make this about me but I couldn't help thinking this.

I hear the front door open. Mom.

I go downstairs. Mom is wearing a very nice outfit. She's really pretty. But she neglected herself for so long.

"Looking good."
She is wearing a red button-up shirt, tucked into black pants with red high heels. Her makeup is really nice, red lipstick, smokey eye-shadow, red blush.

"Thanks. We need to talk."

"I know, Mom."

We take a seat at the kitchen table.

"I don't like it, Soph. Not at all. I met him and he seemed nice, but no. He's your boss, at the end of the day."

"Mom, I know. But even if I like him, he doesn't like me back. So don't worry, nothing is going to happen."

"I don't want you to get involved with rich people. They're not the nicest."

"Not everyone is like Dad, Mom. Yes, Dad was an asshole but that doesn't mean that all rich people are bad."

"Just be careful, Soph. I don't want you to get hurt."

"I will be, Mom. Don't worry. Now tell, how was your date with our dear neighbor Mr. Davis?"

"Very nice. He's such a good man."

"Oh really?"

"Yes. Such a gentleman."

"Did you.... make out?"

"Sophia Rose Johnson!"

"What? I'm asking about you about your date. I want details!"

"He kissed me."

"Oooooh."

"But we didn't make out."

"Do you like him, Mom?"

"Yes. I like him, Soph."

"I'm so fucking happy for you, Mom. Really."

"Language, young lady!"

"Sorry. I couldn't help my excitement!"

"Now tell me. What did you do today with Shawn?"

"You're using his first name, Mom, now. Aren't you?"

"Nice try. You won't change the subject or distract me."

"We were at La Palette. His best friend, Noah, came there, had dinner and then we went for Ice Cream."

"Noah? You never told me about him."

"The subject never came."

"Okay." She nods. "It wasn't a date, then. Huh? Since his best friend came."

"Best friend or not, Mom. It wasn't a date."

"So. What's the deal with his best friend?"

"Well. I met Noah on the day of the interview. I didn't know then that they were best friends. But one day when I was at Shawn's, Noah came over. That's when I knew they were best friends. We get along well. And he's a really good friend. To Shawn. And to me, too. Shawn and Noah are childhood friends."

"Okay. I trust you. You're going over there tomorrow again?"

"Yeah. You noticed?"

"Hell yes. If I don't then I'm not a good mother. You were with him yesterday and today."

"Okay. I'll let it go for now, Soph. But if I feel that it affects you negatively in any way, there's no more going there unless the boy there."

"Thank you."
