I get my phone out of my purse to text Shawn, when Mom says, "he could wait, you know?"
"I said I'd text the moment I land."
"Just landed. Missing you❤️."

Damn, I'm in France. Like actually. I spot Julien and Amélie, my aunt, waiting for us in the airport. I check my phone again, nothing.
Wait...time zones...shit....not again....
We greet each other; they help us with our baggage and we leave the airport.
Two hours later, we're in the car.
Yup. Shawn wouldn't be awake right now. I check my phone again.
"Welcome to France, babe. Text me when you go home with your aunt." That text message was sent at 2:15 AM—Canada's time zone. That was like, five minutes after I sent him my text message. How didn't I notice.
Speaking of time zones....
"Quel heur est-il au Canada?" (What time is it in Canada?"
"Il est 4:30h." Julien says.
I don't think Shawn would be awake right now, but I write to him anyways.
"Home is where you are."
"J'ai entendu que t'as un petit ami, Sophia—qui est célèbre." Amélie says. (I heard you have a boyfriend, Sophia—who is famous.)
"Ouais. Shawn." (Yeah. Shawn.)
"Comment est-il?" (How is he like?)
"Il est... incroyable." (He's... amazing.)
"Et son fils?" (And his son?)
"Notre fils. Il est le meilleur fils de tous les temps." (Our son. He's the best son ever.)
"Ce qui compte vraiment, c'est ton bonheur. Et tu semble heureuse avec lui." (What really matter is your happiness. And you seem happy with him.)
"Je suis très heureuse avec lui." (I am very happy with him.)
My phone buzzes. Shawn?
"Same thing for me. Our house without you feels empty. Our bed was empty last night."
"Awe💖. By the way, what are you doing awake at this time?"
"I kinda waited until your landing time."
"Since you have my ticket info, you know my landing time."
"Yes, clever girl."
"Whatever. Now go sleep. I'm fine."
"I won't sleep until you go to your aunt's house."
"Shawn, I'm in my aunt's car, going to her house."
"Not until you're inside her house."
"🙄"
"You sent me this emoji before."
"I know. Since I can't roll my eyes at you, this emoji will serve me."

"Shut up."
