As she reached the harbor, she was surprised that there was no one, not even some Marines. But of course, she wouldn't complain. She climbed on her boat. The town looked strangely calm and for a moment, Lanniya thought that Kid had failed. She took her time to take a few things in the inside pockets of her cape. She rolled her flag and tied it to her ankle.
- So, are you proud of what you've done ?
As she turned around, she saw Ulla, the postmistress of her village. She came from time to time to collect the money for Lanniya's siblings and, when she had time, a letter for them. She was a small woman who rode a bird from her island. Lanniya never knew how she managed to find her on Grand Line, but she did.
- I didn't have choice, she simply answered.
- Should I tell them ?
She was talking about her siblings, obviously.
- I'm writing something to them.
Lanniya looked away quickly, seeing some explosions far in the town. Kid had started his attack.
- I probably won't be able to send them as much money as before.
- I thought you wanted to stay alone. To be able to help them until they would be old enough.
- Bring this letter to them, she said holding her paper. I explained what there is to explain, don't tell them anything else.
Lanniya didn't want to answer to her remark since she felt a knot in her stomach thinking about how easily she lost her freedom. Ulla didn't say anything else. She simply took the letter and flew in the dark night. Lost in her thoughts, Lanniya continued to pack some things. Suddenly, some flames exploded in the town, near from the harbor. She heard screams from people and some Marines started to come from everywhere, rushing where the flames came out. Soon, the whole town was burning. People were screaming after some pirates.
Kid.
Lanniya turned her head to see a ship lighted up with torches. Kid's crew started to come this way, rushing to their ship. The Marines were chasing them. Kid finally came, fighting with many Marines at the same time. They obviously were way less powerful than him when he was using his Demon Fruit. He looked incredibly badass.
- Shadow, run to the ship, we don't have much time, he shouted when he saw her staring at him.
As soon as they heard her name, the Marines started to run after her as well. Without picking up anything else from her boat, she took out her scythe and started to run. Some Marines came in front of her but Lanniya didn't stop. Using her scythe perfectly, she hurt them and continued to run. She didn't realize it, but Kid was just behind her, admiring how fearless and emotionless she was when it came to keep her life.
She finally reached the ship. Since Kid was taller than her, he climbed quickly but she struggled. The Marines were coming always closer so they started to move the ship which made Lanniya struggle even more. She was about to give up and fall in the water. At the last moment, Kid gave her his hand and swung her on bord.
The time she took to realize what was happening, Kid was giving orders and didn't care about her anymore. She hid in a corner, not wanting to disturb them anymore and also too shocked to think about anything. Lanniya watched the flames burning up far away. When she started to feel the tears burning her cheeks, she covered her whole body with her cape, praying to become invisible.
