Chapter 32 : Angel Dust

It was a couple months after the letter came. Lanniya had had doubts during the recent days, but she still couldn't believe it. She sat in your room, in disbelief. When she thought more about it, they had never protected themselves, so, of course, she had looked for it a little bit. But she was not ready. What was the problem ? She just learned that she was pregnant.

When her periods didn't come, she bought a test in a town. And it was true : she was pregnant. With Kid's child. She sat in disbelief. It explained a lot, in fact. All those mornings where she was sick, the fact that she was always hungry and tired, etc. She looked at her tummy.

The biggest question was : what to do with this surprise ? It was sure to her : Lanniya wanted to keep it. She had not the heart to kill this so small and innocent being. But on the other side, she couldn't keep it on board ! It was a too rough environnement for a child and a pregnant woman. And Kid would probably not be happy about being a dad. He was not very fond of children.

She pretexted to not feel good to stay in her room the whole day. She had to think about a plan. She didn't have much time. Soon, she knew what she would do. It broke her heart, somehow. But it was the better option.

Lanniya packed her things in a big bag. She would only take the strict necessary. She wanted to leave and find a refuge on a lost island. There, she would raise her child until he grew up and would be big enough to live on a ship without being in danger. Then, she would explain everything to Kid and she would see what comes next.

When the night fell, Lanniya went out to take one of the safety boats. They were there in case of a shipwreck. She stole one of them and fled as fast as she could. She had barely enough food and water, so she had to find an island as soon as possible. Every step further from the Victoria Punk was breaking her heart a little bit more. She ignored the tears coming down her cheeks.

The morning after, Killer noticed that Lanniya was still in her room. It was not normal. If she was sick, she needed food and water. He decided to tell Kid.

- Let her, she is just not feeling well, answered Kid, not suspecting anything.

- She hasn't come out, Kid. You should go and check if she's OK.

- Maybe, he said standing up. I'll go take a look.

He knocked but nobody answered. He entered and was shocked when he couldn't find her. He searched the whole room and the whole ship, but nothing. Killer went to him. His face was pale.

- She's not there, Killer. She disappeared.

They searched everywhere but found nothing. Killer looked at her room. He soon understood what had happened. Lanniya had fled. She had the pregnancy test with her, so he didn't have any clues about the reason. Meanwhile, Kid was completely destroyed. He thought she had been kidnapped and killed.

- Kid... She fled.

- No... no, she was kidnapped, we need to find her.

- I don't know why, but she did it.

The others went away slowly. Kid was destroyed.

- She probably had a good reason for it. God knows what.

- Tell me that we'll find her back, Kid said while starting to cry.

Killer stayed silent.
