Chapter 21 : Becoming the last hope

The captains had decided to make their way to Wano. According to Apoo, it was his resting place. He seemed to know the most about him. Lanniya was trying to be as friendly as she could, but avoided them the most of the time. She didn't know how it would work together, but as long as they had a plan to defeat Kaido...

They were really close to Wano, now. It was the last island. Wano was at a few hours of ship. They were all pretty cautious, knowing that some of the strongest Kaido's men were maybe in the surroundings. After a small tour of the island, it didn't seem so, but Kid still recommended them to always keep a weapon by themselves. The three captain were often walking together to talk about their plan. Killer and Lanniya only knew the big lines of it, and from what Kid told them, it seemed that even the captains were often changing it. Kid had not talked to them about Lanniya's power. He simply said that she was a good thief and fighter.

So there they were, talking again. Lanniya was helping the sailors to fix some weapons. She was not bad with blades. The sky was kind of darker as usual, but the sea was not the calmest around there. But suddenly, the sky became pitch black, as if it was night. Lanniya looked up to see a giant form. It was not a cloud. When she realised what was happening, it was too late to avoid it. Someone was falling from the sky.

As that someone hit the ground, it made the same impact as an explosion. She told to the others to go on the ship. It was not a good sign. The silhouette slowly raised in front of the captains. It was Kaido. They were mute in shock. He didn't seem to have noticed them. He stood up as if he was really fallen from the sky. Lanniya wondered if he even knew that they were there. She looked at Kid, waiting for him to say something. After what seemed to be hours, they went quickly back to their ships, looking all terrified.

- We are fleeing, urged Kid. It was not planned. We better find a calm place and see what to do next.

As they were about to leave, Lanniya noticed something strange. Hawkins was ready to leave, but Apoo was still on the island, facing Kaido, his arms wide open.

- The fuck is he trying to do, she muttered for herself.

- You should hurry, master, she heard him say. They are fleeing.

Kaido looked at her and his gaze became darker. She tried to believe that it was not what she thought it was. She pulled Kid by the arm.

- Kid, there's something strange going on with the crazy Chinese.

He seemed to have the same impressions than her.

- He is not...

- I don't know, but let's get out of here.

- It won't be that easy, said Hawkins whom boat was right next to theirs. We are surrounded by Kaido's army.

Indeed, they were coming from all sides. The only place where they were not, was in the direction of Wano. Kid and Hawkins hesitated. It was Kaido's territory, not a very safe place. But there was no other choice.

- Since Apoo doesn't want to help us, we'll do what's best right now, said Hawkins, taking out his sword.

- Most importantly, we must go on earth, if he sinks our boat, it's the end, said Killer.

Lanniya had cold sweat thinking about how it would feel to drown because of her powers. Killer and Hawkins managed to make the way clear to Wano and they rushed towards it. But Kaido had transformed and was coming their way. And mostly, Apoo's ship was firing at them.

- What the fuck is that ? screamed Hawkins, looking at Kid for answers.

But no one answered him.
