The thing with Impel Down was that it was easy to get in and to free someone if you were free yourself, but really hard to get out of it if you were in a cell. Lanniya climbed the wall easily at night. With her spying abilities, it was easy to get in and to enter the prison. Lanniya went to the control room and, while all the guards were sleeping, she opened the gates for the crew.
After a short communication, Killer and the others joined her at the second circle outside of the control room. Killer and Lanniya would go look for Kid, some would go pick up skeletons for her and the others would stay there to maintain the guards away. They supposed that he would be in the fourth circle so they rushed to it. After long minutes of running everywhere, they found him. His hand was attached directly to the wall. He was in a very bad shape.
Killer cut the padlock with his blades and Lanniya rushed outside. She hugged his neck. He managed to raise his head a little bit. He was at least conscious about her presence and Killer's.
- Lanniya...
- I'm there. It'll be OK.
He was obviously very weak. Again, Killer freed him from his handcuffs as she put him on her back. Killer wanted to say something, but he didn't. They didn't have much time after all. They had luck that no one was coming to attack them.
At the middle of the second circle, however, a bad surprise was waiting on them. Hannyabal was there with a lot of guards. Lanniya stopped, tired of carrying Kid on your back. Killer didn't want to stop, but he did. Soon, they were surrounded. Luckily, Magellan, the director, was not there and apparently, Hannyabal didn't want to alarm him. Their mates were nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, the group that was in charge of harvesting skeletons arrived loudly. Their arms were full of bones. Despite the presence of Hannyabal and the guards, they threw it wildly. Lanniya quickly put Kid on the ground and raised her arms. The skeletons raised. She made them attack the guards who soon fled. With the rest of the bones, she made an animal who could carry Kid. Killer attacked Hannyabal. He was not as easy as he looked like.
They tried to get as close at the exit as possible. They knew it was foolish to fight in Impel Down. Their priority was to get out. Once the guards had fled, their mates came back in force. The fight was long and hard, but they managed to reach the boat. Lanniya was concentrating on making the way safe for Kid, so she didn't pay attention to Hannyabal. Killer had left him and was protecting the crew. The vice-director took out a gun and shot at her back. It hit her multiple times. She screamed and fell in surprise.
Killer screamed her something, but she was barely conscious and didn't hear it. She focused on bringing Kid back at the boat. She knew that if you fell unconscious, the skeletons would disappear. She refused to be stuck there. She wanted to live. Suddenly, an enormous metal arm took her by her waist. Kid had regained consciousness an was using his last strengths to pick her up. By the time they were on the ship, Lanniya had lost consciousness and the skeletons fell apart.
Killer took care of the situation and they fled as fast as they could. Kid recovered quickly, but Lanniya, not. The doctor on board told them that she needed to rest at a calm place and that her body couldn't heal properly. The bullets were probably poisoned. Killer decided to reach the island where their son was. Kid was too shocked by her state to take any decision. He spent all of his days with her. Lanniya was not often awake, but he kept stroking her hair and her face. He couldn't believe it. She had come all this way, letting their son to Heat, to free him. He was scared to see her die because of him.
Lanniya finally regained consciousness shortly before they arrived to the island. According to the doctor, she was mostly out of danger, but she still had some light fever. Lanniya smiled when she saw Kid. He kissed her forehead softly. Some tears dropped from his face. He remembered the promise the others made, years ago. That they would not let her free him from Impel Down.
- Lanniya, why ?
- I couldn't let you there, she managed to say.
She smiled hardly.
- You are alive. Is Kodai alright ?
- We are going to see him. You need to rest at a calm place.
The next day, after a night in the arms of her lover, they landed on the island. Lanniya was not in shape so Kid went to pick up Kodai, with her in his arms. They discovered Heat, beaten up, and their son running towards them. Kid put her on the ground and opened his arms.
- The bad Marines came to attack us, he said with a shaking voice.
It was horrible to hear her son so scared. Kid took him in his arms to comfort him.
- It's OK, little one. We're back.
- Heat tried hard, but he was too weak.
Someone came from the house. Aokiji. Lanniya wanted to do something, but it was too hard to even stand up. He slowly walked to her. Kid stood up, ready to defend his son.
- The Ice man went to save us, said Kodai. He is almost as strong as you, Dad.
- I heard about the plan of the Marines to kill this little guy, explained Aokiji. I couldn't let Iruza's grand-child being killed like that.
He looked sad.
- I thought you didn't care about them, she managed to say.
- I always had a lot of respect for Iruza. I don't approve her life-choices, but I can't let her descendants suffer the same fate as her.
- You didn't tell me the first times, she said angrily.
Kid was really mistrustful.
- Was it useful ? he answered. I don't think so. I thought you had the personality of your father. But your life choices are as unfortunate as your mother's. Having a child with a pirate without being properly married...
Her head fell on the ground.
- Oh please... I was gonna thank you.
- Don't. You better get out of there. This place isn't safe for you anymore.
He left silently. Kid picked you up again while Kodai followed him. He didn't understand what was happening.
- Killer, take Heat with you. I'm sorry, but we must leave, he told Oma who went outside.
She simply nodded while looking at Lanniya. She finally left this island like thieves and without a proper goodbye. It kinda broke her heart, but she was too weak to do anything about it.
