Killer was watching every moves Lanniya did. He knew she would find a way to come to Kid. After he caught her a few times, she saw a sailor coming out of Kid's room. He seemed to hesitate.
- What's wrong ? she asked him as discretely as possible.
- I've forgotten something inside. I don't want to disturb the captain.
- Don't worry, I'll pick it up for you.
Lanniya saw Killer look at her. She didn't have a lot of time so she opened the door and closed it. Killer immediately bumped into it, but she had locked it before. She heard him cursed, but he couldn't do anything anymore.
Kid was lying on his bed, holding his missing arm with the other. He apparently cried and his face was tensed up in pain. It moved Lanniya deeply. She had never seen him in such a state. His back was mostly facing her.
- Kid...
- I don't want to see you, Lanniya.
It was horrible to feel the pain in his voice.
- What happened, Kid ?
- Don't come in my sight.
Lanniya sat at the corner of the bed. He hid his face even more so she turned her back to him.
- Kid.
He didn't answer.
- Kid, why don't you want me to see you ? she said softly.
The room was dark. The sun almost didn't shine through the blinds. Lanniya felt bad, but not knowing why, though. It's not like she was responsible of this tragedy.
- You trust me. I'm like a second Killer to you. Why don't you want me to help you ?
He didn't answer, but her words were sinking into him. He was so scared. She would reject him because of this damn arm. He would disgust her. Strangely, it was the worst thing that could happen to him. That Lanniya would let him down because of his infirmity.
- I like you a lot, you know.
- But you will let me down if you see me like that !
- No !
Lanniya was shocked. After everything that happened between them, how dared he say such a thing ? But she couldn't blame him. There was not a thing clear in this story, and if she added the shock of loosing an arm, it was maybe a little bit harder to think clearly.
- I'm part of your damn crew ! I would be the weakest person in the world if I would let you down in such a situation.
- I know you won't leave my crew, but you won't like me anymore.
She stayed silent for a while.
- Then you'll have the right to say all the bad things you want about me. If you really think so, then I'm learning that you think I'm a bitch.
- I never said so.
- But you think so, and that's what matter.
Lanniya stood up and went away from him. All the sleep depravation started to affect her thinking.
- You know, I didn't think that it would be a good moment for the discussion about our relationship, but since you don't want us to have one, I guess it's not even necessary.
- You won't have it anyway, he said, saying out loud the things that were on his heart. You like your freedom to much to have an exclusive relationship.
He managed to seat up, but he still wasn't looking at her in the eyes.
- That's what I want with you. I couldn't support to see you in another man's arms.
Lanniya blushed, not expecting to hear something like that. She thought he was only moved by his pulsions and couldn't feel any true deep feeling for anyone. She couldn't help to smile. It was relieving to hear his true feelings. And right now, he needed her more then ever before.
- I told you I would break your heart, she said looking at him.
He wanted to be mad at her, but her smile was so precious that he couldn't.
- I knew it from the beginning, he whispered.
He wanted to take her in his arms so bad, but he was afraid. Lanniya went to him and hugged him. She felt how he hugged her back. He even slightly kissed her forehead. She went back to sit on the corner while he rubbed his missing arm.
- I have to thank you to have picked us up, he said.
- I was in the surroundings, she said.
He noticed her trouble. He didn't know what happened to her during the fight.
- What's wrong, honey ?
Hearing him call her sweet names just made her blush. In a moment, all her conversation with Aokiji came back to her mind. She knew he was smart and probably didn't believe some parts of her tale.
- There's something wrong about me, Kid. And I can't put the finger on it.
Lanniya told him about Aokiji, without giving too much details about the conversation. He let his head fall on the pillow. He didn't think much of it, but he could understand that it made her question certain things.
- I'm pretty sure you'll find soon, if Aokiji was there for no apparent reasons.
And anyway, he would help her find out. If Aokiji was putting his nose in such a thing, it was because it was serious.
