Kodai was nowhere to be seen. Lanniya had a bad foreboding. She rushed to the shore to see what she expected to see. Her son was about to leave the island on a small boat.
- Kodai ! she screamed. Come back immediately !
Ten years had passed. He was fourteen now. He was a tall muscular boy with red hair. His style was really like his father's. He obeyed. Lanniya tried to take him in her arms but he pushed her and ran away. She followed him. She was maybe 36, but she was still in shape.
- What were you trying to do ?
He sat on the ground, closing his ears. Lanniya sighed. She softly took his hands off. She stood in front of him. He knew he could not escape her at that point.
- You were trying to join Kid, right ? she said softly.
It was a big subject these times. He turned his head away. Lanniya knew he was about to cry. He was missing his dad so bad and it was harder these times.
- I don't know what I'm still doing here. Even Kailan left.
Killer went to pick his son up a couple months ago, pretending that he needed his help. It was a big shock for Kodai. He felt betrayed. She helped him to stand up.
- Don't be this sad. It's your birthday in a few days.
This evening, Lanniya called Kid with the Den Den Mushi.
- He is really sad Kid. He tried to join you again.
She could hear Kid sigh. It was hard to know that his son wanted to be with him that bad.
- Do you think that he is ready ?
- It's obviously the good time, she sighed.
- Then I know what my birthday gift will be for him.
She smiled.
- I can't wait to see you.
- Me too, love. You'll come with us again ?
- Of course ! It will be strange to live with you again.
- I haven't changed that much ! I don't even look like I'm 39 !
She laughed.
- We'll see. See you, love.
A couple days after, Lanniya woke up Kodai relatively early in the morning. It was his birthday. He was fifteen now.
- Pack your things, she said. We have big plans today.
- We are going to do camping, sighed Kodai.
- I said nothing. I told you to pack your things. Come at the harbor when you'll be ready.
Lanniya left him and went to the harbor. The Victoria Punk was already there. She installed her things in Kid's room. When he arrived, they hugged tightly and kissed. He couldn't believe that he still loved her after all these years. And their son was big, now. Funny how time flies.
They both waited on the desk of the harbor. Kodai was taking a lot of time. He finally arrived, walking slowly, his eyes on his feet as he used to do.
- He has grown up.
- Yes. He needs you more than ever now.
The young man seemed to see them and started to walk faster. Killer and Kailan came out. He was smiling.
- Hi, Lanni, he told her. Dad told me that Kodai would join us. Is it for real ?
- Yes. Have you seen your mother ? Discretely, I hope ?
- We have, said Killer. Yesterday evening. You were dining with Kodai.
- That's better. He will love to see you again, Kailan.
She was like a big family. Killer was Kodai's godfather, as Lanniya and Kid were Kailan's godparents. He often referred to her as his aunt. Kodai was almost there. He was running. Kid put his arm on her shoulder.
- Isn't it what we always waited for ?
- I think so, she said.
When her son arrived, Lanniya smiled, her arms crossed. He looked surprised and confused.
- What the...
- That's all ? said Kid looking at his little bag. After all, your mother had also very few luggages when I met her.
She chuckled and rolled her eyes.
- Come on, son. We prepared your room.
Kodai looked at her.
- Yes it's what you think.
Kailan laughed. Kodai noticed him and rushed to him. The young boys hugged.
- You bastard, said Kodai who was now overwhelmed with joy.
- Be nicer, Kodai, commented Kid.
- Because you are a model of manners, of course, smirked his son.
Killer and Lanniya laughed. Kid sighed and went to his son to congratulate him. He explained that he was ready to go on the sea with his parents. Their son looked at his mother.
- Who will rule the territory ?
- You forgot about your aunt Kersti ? She will stay here.
Kodai screamed and jumped everywhere around. He was very happy. Kailan soon joined his hilarity. Lanniya wiped some tears on the corner of her eyes. Kid hugged her from the back. It was the most beautiful to see their children get along so well.
- They're the new generation, said Killer with some nostalgia.
- As we were, 15 years ago.
Soon after, they were on the seas with her husband and her son. He was incredibly happy and was climbing everywhere. Kid looked proudly at him. He was teaching his son everything he knew. And Kodai was making his best to make his daddy proud. It was a new beginning. Lanniya thought about the first time she met Kid, the incident of the Sabaody. She thought about her parents and Aokiji. She thought about everything they went through during all these years. A strange feeling invaded her body. The feeling of freedom. The feeling of being in danger, in a new adventure. Like her son on the upper mast, his red hair blown by the wind, she was excited about what would come next.
